He has been super obsessed with his vibrato lately, comparing it to others he watches playing the violin. His private teacher especially. I keep telling him that everyones vibrato is different for different reasons, but he keeps saying over and over again that his vibrato isn't as good as others. I have no clue what he is trying to accomplish but I honestly(even if I wasn't his father)think he has really good vibrato. So, he chose this song to show his vibrato and please be honest. If you think it is good, say so. If you see any flaw or something I may have missed, constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome..honestly!!!!!

@JimandThomas -

I LOVE IT!

I notice how beautiful your vibrato is in everything you play, Thomas!

I'm no expert, just a Fiddler - I can't even come close to matching your vibrato.

It's wonderful that you love learning and want to do your best!

Thomas B.

In my honest opinion, there is nothing wrong with that vibrato. In time he will smooth it out, it's the timing of when he brings the vibrato in and stops  it and our choice of how we shape the vibrato. Thats how the Greats all had a distinctive vibrato to the point you can tell who's playing by there vibrato.

Thomas B. Your doing very good! In my humble opinion.

I think Thomas has really good vibrato.  Perhaps he is seeing how seasoned players (like his teacher) are able to change their vibrato (speed up, slow down, etc., ) to shape a phrase, etc.,

I wish my vibrato looked like that! I think it looks professional and effortless! Well done 👍

Thank you everyone, you made his day today. We both sat down before school this morning and read the replies. Just something simply like these responses make the world of difference to a young musician, especially in this age of gadgets that take away the thrill of musical instrument playing. Even the couple of critiques were worded so that he did not get dismayed or even question them, which I would like to thank and commend all of you as you worded your responses responsibly and with a heart.

I like to give one tip at a time.
Please have Thomas play this a few times with a metronome. You guys will know why soon after. :)
Thanks for the post.

It should be set at a tempo in which Thomas can play without mistakes. The tempo is not that important for what I'm referring to. :)

Let me know your findings. 😁
