Adding Shoutouts To Your Posts (@username)

I have noticed that sometimes a shoutout in a post is not actually inserted properly. The notice does not appear at the top of the forum. In a recent post that I was reading, there was a shout out to me, but there was no mention of my having been mentioned in that post above the forum. I checked, and it appears the shoutout was not done correctly.

To do a shoutout, you enter the @ sign and type in the username, do NOT add a space after the @ sign. There will be a dropdown box with options for that username. This is important, select the correct username from that list. That username you selected from the options will be inserted after the sign. You may now continue typing. It will work with just typing in the @username, but the next paragraph will explain that issue.

You might notice that at different name has been inserted after you have selected the username, this is because the member has chosen a different screenname after creating the username. The original username is what will appear in the post, until AFTER IT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED. After the post has been submitted you will see the current name being used by that member.

For example, I started with Cid. I changed it to Mouse. You will type in @mouse and select Mouse from the dropdown options. When you select it, you will see @ cid (no space between the @and username)in the text box you are typing in. After you submit the post, it will change to @mouse. I will see a notice at the top of the forum that someone mentioned me in a post. If the @username worked, you will see that @username as a different color, and underlined.

If you just type @ and the username, without selecting it from the dropdown box, if that username has been changed, the shoutout will not work. It will just show @mouse, or whatever the username, and plain black text in the submitted post, and the member, whose attention you are trying to get, will not get any notification at the top of the forum.
