It was absolutely fine here OO - I rechecked it and yes - it is driven quite high - peaking at about 80% or so of max level - or so - but no clipping throughout the whole thing.

If you're concerned at all - it MAY clip if you play forte/forte - there would be no problem dropping the record level to maybe 50% (assuming your recording device has some kind of visual level-meter)

All fine here, OO. I listened with my earphones here at work, and it seemed a little louder than some recordings, like Billy said, so maybe could be dropped a tad if your device allows that. Otherwise, all good :)

I guess I should add that I'm playing on a Cecilio CVN-600 w/Violino strings.

I have been teaching myself for about 2 years. (guess I should find a teacher) :)

I record on a PC using Windows Movie Maker, a 5mp web cam and a Neewer MW-700 mic.

Thanks for the post.

Is there a special reason that you play on your back?

Yes I'm a T-3 Paraplegic do to an accident back in '83. Now old age is catching up with me and I'm even less mobile.

But it does make it interesting for someone to critique my style..... :)

Yup @OldOgre - as mentioned in the chat - level is fine - it's much less hot than your first take.   Also, there's a little bit of background hiss (only really noticeable at start and end in absence of violin sound - and I really wouldn't worry at all about that).

You are right, difficult to critique your style in this case. I'm glad you can still have a sense of humor about it. I have actually tried playing laying down out of curiosity and it's not easy.

When did you begin to play? Do you every play while sitting?

When I started 2 yr ago, there were 2 problems with sitting and playing.

1. Balance- with my high injury level its almost impossible to hold something up to work with it or play. ie. I fall over...lol

2. I was under wound care at the time so sitting was out of the question.

So I basically became more comfortable playing laying down, and there is no need for that peskie shoulder rest. :) Although since I have to rest the neck of the violin on my thumb it tends to cause pain in the joint after some time.

I have actually found it easier to play the violin laying down then any other instruments I play.. which are Guitar, keyboard, flute and trumpet. and all not very good. As you can tell I have not let anything slow me down.

As I said before I took up the violin just to annoy my roommate, but I have come to like playing it. its just the right size to play laying down and I can keep it within easy reach. I have come to like it so well that I have 5 of them now...
