Hi! I've been working on the nyckelharpa for a couple of years. My cousins in Sweden found one and mailed it to me!! I had some restoration done and absolutely love it. Mine was built by Erik Olsson in 1975, it is a fiddle harpa. It is tuned just like a violin. I played a bit of Irish fiddle in a session each week, now I take my NH. There are no players around me so I watch a lot of youtube videos. I wish there was someone to play with in this area!! Anyway, this is an introduction to the group ... so glad I'm here. V

Welcome to the Forum!
Really glad you joined us!
I LOVE the haunting sound of a Nyckelharpa, but I only have a 5-string acoustic/electric Violin & a 5-string Viola... actually, I'm expecting a 6-string violin in a few days!
I've learned some beautiful tunes just because I heard them played on Nyckelharpa, but I can understand it would be much easier to have one tuned like a fiddle - to play fiddle music. Funny, I just saw Mark Korven play an 'Octaveharpa' in a YouTube video last week! It is HUGE. (lol)
Nyckelharpa has always looked (to me) like a much more comfortable instrument to play, compared to the fiddle - is it?
How long does it take you to tune all your strings?
Think you'll fit right in here!!!
