Hi - Bill Here - the "Mad" in the name refers to my total frustration at having to learn an un-fretted instrument - and hopefully nothing to do with my current mental-state-of-mind (but you never know). I do "truly-serious software" for a living ( don't ask - LOL ) and I am at a time of life when I should not really HAVE to worry about things ( 61 next b'day ) - so - I am self-taught guitar and have played for many years - the fretless on fiddle/violin is a real nice challenge - and I can immediately see the "physics" of the thing - if not the actual subtleties of playing which I still clearly have to learn.
I had problems getting registered on the site - but have been a constant visitor for the last week or so - it is real good to meet you all - any big thanks to FM / Pierre - magic stuff ... cool
I'm on the road to being a fiddle player ( blame Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham ! ) - and I can already tell - you guys have so much info to share - it's gonna be easy (kiddng)...... hahah Cheers, Bill
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

I understand what you're saying about the fretless instrument, it's definately a challenge. Of course having a fine instrument makes all the difference in the world as this video demonstrates.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright

Welcome MadBill. Have a great time with learning.
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.
