Time to try a Sea Shanty?
Most Sea Shanties are simple, fun melodies with a harmonized chorus.
What happens when you kick one up a notch on the violin, or viola... or cello?
I think you get your socks knocked off!
All String Version of "The Wellerman".
"The Wellerman", amazing Solo Violin with Sheet music, by Roberts Balanas.

Oh wow, this I want to learn!
Ps. I did it again, hit 4 stars when I tried to get 5, and I can’t change it...😭

@Ilona -
I've done that before - felt pretty bad I couldn't change it.
There are simple sheet music versions of this shanty available at "The Session".

If you have any trouble with this link, just use their search bar.
@ABitRusty -
Have you seen these versions of The Wellerman?

The music looks like something paganini would have done, I like the solo but to be honest I think its over complicating it, all the strings together were excellent, very enjoyable, I like shantys when they are just sung with four or five in a choir. But then again I like singing so I am biased.
Cant beat a sunny day

@Gordon Shumway -
Give Roberts Balanas's version of "The Wellerman" a whirl!
I think if I could beg for just 1 Fiddlerman tutorial, it would be for this version of this shanty (since Roberts Balanas was kind enough to supply the sheet music).
If I could even come a tiny bit close to playing this, I'd leave this world with a smile on my face...
Guess I need to start a Dream List... okay, back to reality!

Anyone see the movie "Fisherman's Friends"?
A true story, released 2019 in the UK - I watched it on Netflix.
"Ten fisherman from Cornwall are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut album of Sea Shanties." (imdb)
Pranks, integrity and a heartfelt glimpse of the life!
Enjoyable movie!
...NO, it's not animated. 😏

This Sea Shanty was in the "Fisherman's Friends" movie!
"Drunken Sailor" performed by Katy Adelson.
Here's her tutorial to learn this simple tune!
1st time I heard this was by the Irish Rovers, many years ago - the only famous Irish group I've seen in person!🥰
But, I've been to Ceilis at some of our annual Highland Games.🤗

@ABitRusty -
1st heard him a couple years back when I discovered I could watch YouTube music videos on my TV.
I love how David Coffin engages with the public - like at the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival in New Hampshire.
And, really love the part "and another Festival wouldn't do us any harm"!
I remember thinking "this sounds like a real Sea Shanty" (other than Sailor's Hornpipe). 😁
Speaking of Sailor's Hornpipe... I learned this for the Grandkids (not this elaborate version) - performed here by Vi Wickam.
Another cat-love'n fiddler!
...or another fiddle-love'n cat!
Love it!
