Here is a link to and Index I started about a year ago with helpful links and reference material for learning cello

Cello Lesson Links

Maybe there is something here that will help with questions.

Have a question or problem? Post your question in a reply. We, cello students or outright cellists (I am not in that category), will try to help.

Hello everyone!

I’m trying to learn vibrato. I would be very thankfull for any tips and advices how to get it work. I have watched a lot of videos from Youtube, and most usefull this far has been this one.

My vibrato works quite ok in 1st position, but when i shift to 3rd or 4th position it feels like my hand does’t know what to do anymore. 3rd finger works, but the rest are somehow locked. I can feel my arm is not relaxed, but I don’t know what to do. Actually if I practice only in 3rd position I might get it work after a while, but it immediately stops if I play something with shifting to another position.

Maybe I just need practice more and more...

@Ilona

I have replied to your Cello Vibrato question. Here is the link:

Vibrato on Cello

Please add you comments, experience, questions, etc.

I am not sure, but we might be at about the same spot in cello, if anything, you may be a tad further along.

Any suggestions where to find good etudes?
I have Dotzauer violoncello-schule 1 and 2, I like them and have experienced them very useful.

I would need more etudes with especially string crossing exercises, but I’m wondering should I just go with this and try Dotzauers 113 etudes for cello or something else?

I am not sure. If you like Dotzauer, maybe stick with that and get the 113 etudes? I noticed my Alwin Schroeder book has some Dotzauer. There are 7 in the first half of the book and 6 in the second half.

Since this book is volume 1, I am not sure what level it actually is. The ones I have done seem very bow intensive, to me.

The Dotzauer pieces in the second half of this book are:

Op. 155, No 2

Op. 54, No. 5

Op. 47, No. 4

Op,47, No. 5

Op. 47, No. 7

Op, 47, No. 8

That might give you an idea of what is in the later studies in this book. Not sure if you can find it where you are. I am at the beginning of this book.
