I live in Maine, and in my state there's a "fiddle camp." On the website every year, they post mp3's of the songs you'll be working on played slowly, and fast. You need a password to access this year's mp3's but if you scroll down on this page -> http://mainefiddle.org/tunes.shtm you can get the mp3's of last years songs played slowly, faster, and some of them have tutorials. They're meant to be learned by ear, so there's no sheet music. The music is all irish and french canadian.

I definitely plan to go next year!
They actually hold similar camps all across the continent though, so if anyone is interested in going to something like that but can't come all the way up here:

And here are the ones in Canada:

Anathama,
Not sure what you said, but the sooner you commit to "go" AND "compete", the better it is. You should pick your music now and, even, if you do not eventually compete, the preparation is equal to many music lessons. Performing in such an event leads to great leaps of technique, confidence, etc.
I am even preparing for an event next Fall and I'm really working at it.
When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

OK. Guess you're off the hook for now : )
Looks like fun !
I have a Grand Daughter about that age and playing ability and she just had a "recital" along with about 50 kids of the Boston School System !!
PS Does the video suggest that I will see you eventually on YouTube ? : )
