playing fast skipping over strings
I am having trouble playing fast and smoothly for example, when I have to move from the A to the G string.

for example, if I have to move from an A on the E string to an F on the D string and do it fast and smoothly, as in a slur.

Can you give more details? Tempo, rhythm, type of music?

for example, the second violin part of Aaron Copeland's El Salon Mexico, there are all these fast slurs mostly from the A to the D string.  Similar things that have to skip over beast.jpgImage Enlarger

a string are much worse.  Say if it is more than an octave difference.

This example doesn't skip over any strings but if you need to quickly skip over, you should have your wrist in the correct position for the note beneath the string you are skipping. Use as little motion as possible by being as close to the next string as possible and not crossing over more than necessary. Also, the closer you play to the frog the easier it is to cross with less motion.
Minimize movement and play closer to the bottom half/frog....
