With the current contest going on for new violinist, I tried a few options last night to record my first video and all of the ended up with very poor quality on both the audio and video. We initially tried her camera which has a movie creator option to it but the sound was so terrible that I ended up sounding more like I was playing the bagpipes than the violin. Sadly enough, the only option we had was to just record me playing with her phone which really doesn't work all that well.
I was wondering, what suggestions do you all have that I could use as an effective yet inexpensive way to record videos decent enough to upload to YouTube? I learned a ton about how I'm playing by doing this the other night that I think it will be a great tool to help me improve. Still, I don't want to have to sell a kidney to make this work.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

That sounds great! I appreciate the help. Thankfully, I have Windows 7 on my system so this should be much of a problem. Trying to make videos with a cell phone is a pain.
Oh. I almost forgot to ask... Does this camera pick up movement fairly well when you're playing? I've seen a few that almost give the "matrix" effect as they just can't keep up well enough.

Mark,Have you ever tried using your computer to record? Do you have a webcam, either built in or external? Do you have a camera that might have video as well?
Pierre,
I've actually never even given much thought to recording until your last group project but after doing it once, it's actually pretty darn fun. My home system was a custom job and so I never got a webcam for it though it does have a pretty decent mic. I'm going to try out one of these webcams and see how that goes. I'm working on Song of the Caged Bird by Lindsey Stirling and so it would be really nice to the before and after versions.

Yes, Mark, I failed to tell you that it is a webcam and picks up motion very well, it's not jumpy / stop and go like some i've seen.
You may have to go and download the driver's for that particular camera for Win7, if available.
I don't know why everyone makes it so difficult to use.
If you search for a webcam, either in store or web search, check to see the operating system it works with, if any.
Good luck.
Ken.
