I found out about his music a couple years ago from spitfire audios website. Like the mix of strings and piano and this style of music.
He has a good sense of humor which comes through in this concert video from Sydney.
I think alot can be taken from how he uses the audience to sing a single note he played on a piano...captures them singing that on recording.. uses it as a backing to then create. Very cool in my opinion and a simple begininning to something that evolves into more complex music.

Very interesting experience.
Ólafur is creative & has great comedic timing - loved the strings everywhere, but was kinda weird that the piano felt like backup throughout, all very elemental - Iceland. Little hard for me to stay engaged with this ambient style of music - more like floating on water, just not going anywhere.
Enjoyed Allt Varð Hljótt, the Bathtub song & Grandma's song.

THAT video was SOOO AWESOME! Not sure I'd think twice about the music without the video - perfect paired.
...kept waiting to see if a person was at the other end of the strings. (lol)
Has his music been used in any films?
Ólafur's music would be GREAT for reflection/meditation, except they aren't anything I'd like to play myself. I've been listening to slow pieces with a bit more of a melody... so I can both relax & start the learning process of new tunes, at the same time, eg., "Force Majeure" - Nordic Fiddle Thread.

a bathtub commercial that I know of. But only after watching the video above. Didnt he mention a movie he had a track used in? All of the is mainly piano with string backing.
He probably has but I dont know of any off hand.
Similar artist. Quiet time music music 🤫
David Tolk
Max Ricther
ludovico Einaudi
Nick Cave did the soundtrack for one of the most depressing movies ive ever seen called The Road based on a fiction scifi type novel. If youre feeling a bit too giddy just rent that..lol

Like the music of David Tolk!
The Ludovico video was cool.
Yeah, seen "The Road" & probably every other apocalyptic movie - was conflicted about the ending, like was the kid really in a good situation? I watch everything remotely Sci-fi/Fantasy, a little sick of the Zombie movies, though. Well, except for... Warm Bodies, Fido and the short, The Dancing Dead
...I never used to pay as much attention to the music used in films - as I do now!

Only had time to skim over this, but wow - AND an amazing interview at the end! ...someone should've offered Ólafur a hand warmer. (lol)
I could just float away in Ólafur's music and thoroughly enjoyed his interview - can really relate to everything he talks about. I admit I'm infatuated with his 'Stratus', at least what it does.
😄... the one time he "really messed up on the piano" (his words) was because he looked up at the mountains & realized how awesome the scene was.
I had to find out what 'Cercle' is - it's a Paris-based production company (also a record label) that organizes, films & broadcasts electronic music events at unique locations around the World.
...Iceland just had a 3rd Volcanic eruption within just a few months (all in the same location) - kinda unusual & scary.
