In honor of Bach’s Birthday in March, I thought I’d start a Name that Bach! Party!
Submit a video of yourself playing at least 8 measures from a Bach piece (feel free to play more!)
Don’t tell us which piece it’s from – let the rest of us try to guess first.
Here’s mine (I did 9 ¼ measures):

As a side note, Bach in the Subways (15-21 Mar) is an annual worldwide March event (was pretty much cancelled last year because of COVID) for all to experience Bach’s music.
This event was first started in 2010 by a cellist playing the Bach Cello Suites in the subways of NYC as a means for people to have “a chance to experience this music live and up close”.
I’m participating in a group of my teacher’s students on 19 Mar (with appropriate COVID safety measures, of course).
It is for musicians of all levels (& it doesn’t have to be played in a subway). You can read about the program here: https://bachinthesubways.org/

First time I have played this in a year, Emily said I made a mistake so I did it again so as not to anger her😉https://youtu.be/6nbfFi2zjAc

Thanks, all--
@stringy
I just came across the Gavotte in G minor back in July –someone else on the forum (bocaholly) recommended a book of violin duets, & this was the 1st one (arranged as violin duet) in the book (titled, 25 duetti violinistici per principianti, arranged by Luigi Rago).

I’ve looked up that it is in Suzuki Book 3 as well. Good playing on it—it is tricky on the slurs. Thanks for joining the party--

@SharonC -
I messed up & guessed wrong at 1st
(so edited my post)
Bach Double Concerto in D Minor - 2nd Violin?
@ELCBK Yes—Concerto in D minor for two violins and piano and unofficially as "The Bach Double" I’m playing (kind of slow) the first nine measures of the 2nd violin part (2nd violin starts the piece).
There’s a movie starring Meryl Streep, Music of the Heart, based on the documentary Small Wonders (both wonderful to watch) about Roberta Guaspari, a violin teacher who founded the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. At the end of the film, The Bach Double is played by the students & many famous violinists at Carnegie Hall.

Streep actually took a lot of time & effort to prepare for playing violin in the film (unlike a lot of actors, if you ever seen it discussed by TwoSet Violin in multiple videos).
An article that talks about Streep’s preparation:

This is so cool party theme! 🥳🥳 I will definitely join as soon as I have a little time to record something!
I recognized Gavotte which @stringy played because it’s also in the Suzuki cello book 3.
I didn’t know what @SharonC was playing, but it was really nice too! Thank you!

Bach Gavotte in G Minor?
SO FUN!
...but I think you were playing a note off back then (I don't mean your intonation was off). 🤭
Still, you played it great!
- Emily
I better give everyone else a chance to guess these.
i was playing a a lot of notes off emily, in fact parts of it , I think I just made up 😁
Nice job @SharonC and @stringy ! And cool party idea.
I only know how to play one Bach tune right now, but I did 52 bars of it.

@Sasha Awesome Job! I like your version—nice backing & visuals—
@ABitRusty Nice choice—I really like this piece (as party host, I’ll hold off giving the name). 8 measures not so bad, right?
I think Bach would be pleased

What I want to know is what does the "BWV Anhang 116" mean?
(I know Anhang is "to hang")
BWV = Bach works directory (or catalogue). How Bach’s music is organized.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.....erzeichnis
The “Anhang” (attachment, for “Appendix”) is for works that are attributed to Bach, but their authenticity has not been fully secured.
