That is interesting every time I play fiddle the dog leaves the room. My wife has suffered through guitar, banjo, oboe, hammered dulcimer, mandolin button accordion and the fiddle. I believe she is numb. 🙂
I really do not care what folks think of my playing, I enjoy it.
In public I stick to the guitar and banjo but I am almost ready to unleash the fiddle.
Take care and enjoy the challenge.

Since I like to play things with strings, when I have reached a frustrating point in my playing I switch to mandolin or banjo for a break.
Also when you have reached an impasse; swap arms and play left handed (or right hand if necessary); that is pretty close to how you sounded when you started out. It is a fair measure of how far you have come.
It is a challenge to adapt a simple Bach or slow Aires piece to an old time banjo style as it is to do the reverse.
Since my music interests span Baroque to Bluegrass; as they say "So much music so little time. " 🙂
