Senior Moments about "Bells"

My CAKEWALK insists that the attachment is "Bells" at 60 bpm dazed

What am I doing wrong ?

Did somebody say we should stay at 60 ?

It's doing 3/4 and you can easily count the beats (quarter notes) with a watch.

(one beat per second).  The music is also marked 50-60  which almost borders on largo.

Oh that's true, I just counted it against a clock. And post #193 (the digital compilation that fiddlerman linked us) seems faster than 60 bpm too... dunno

I guess that it is possible to have it really slow where the players have little confidence or experience.

That does not diminish the value of the effort but it is rougher to pull a long bow for whole notes smile

The piece doesn't start to come alive until around 70.

Sorry guys,

50-60 (dotted half = quarter) that means that we are counting each bar as 1 beat. So if you want to get the quarter note speed you need to multiply by 3. = 180bpm

So three times faster Oliver. Hope you are OK with this. We can choose 50 which would equal 150 bpm if you all feel more comfortable with it. On my demo I played quite a bit faster than 60 though.

Ohhh! Sweet that makes so much more sense now. I think the demo is a bit too fast for my abilities because this morning I was rushing trying to keep up to pace with the youtube walkthrough so I'm kinda glad we're doing it at a slower tempo. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Let's start at 50 bpm per bar, 150bpm, and if it is too fast for people we will discuss another tempo. OK? smile

I've been practicing at around 152 bpm. Getting there. Just need to clean it up a bit.

Well, maybe we have lots of time depending on the schedule but it is only September so there seems like a lot of time.

Ok, I'm ok with 50 then. It doesn't matter to me ;-) Let's finalize our Fiddlerman Family Christmas Song so we can all be on the same page and have fun with this. Don't worry about being a little out of tune or a little too slow or a little too fast. It will just make the notes sound thicker ;-). Fiddlerman already said that he was going to edit and produce our Fiddlerman Family Christmas Song so we should all start practicing NOW!jimi-hendrix

and get our parts down so FM doesn't have to rush to put us all together ;-)

Sounds great. We'll produce something fun no matter what it sounds like. By when should I produce the click track? Do you guys want the first violin part to be on the click track? I can have a click and the 1st part so you guys can practice with an ear piece and feel the connection at the same time.

If the project does not require a click track then I don't need one for 1 st violin besides which I don't know what that is (?)   Is it a form of metronome ?

A click track is a series of audio cues used to synchronize sound recordings. I'll probably just say one, two, three - and then we start. Also with a continuous click till the end. Maybe some instructions about dynamics and the fade as well. You will understand when you download the click track. The only thing is that you will need a headset or earplug or something.

Curiousity     Why did you single out first violin regarding a click track .... or not?

Probably because 1st violin is typically harder to play and the other parts tend to harmonize with 1st violin...? That's just what I reckon though.

A click track sounds like something I need desperately! Vocal cues as to pauses and dynamics would be very helpful. Even on the simple parts! I looks easy to basically play the same four note over and over, but I can get lost...I have seen me do it!

In a desperate attempt to escape exam study I decided to take a few short videos. I haven't practised much and I started getting really slack towards the end confused. I recorded these without a metronome so my tempo probably varies quite a bit. Anyways, check it out:

Violin 4

Violin 3

Violin 2

Violin 1 Not recorded (thank goodness!)
