Hey fiddlerman,

I just took a quick glance at the viola parts. Is it just me or are all the notes for viola 1 and 2 a note below violin 3 and 4 respectively? And the key signature looks like one note low too? Was that intentional or did you just paste the notes on the wrong line? (im assuming violist read music sheet the same way violinists do)

I can't find the music but viola, I think, is in another clef.

The parts for Viola 1 and 2 are exactly the same as Violin 3 and 4. I thought it might be nice to have some low instruments on the base line.

Violists read music in tenor clef which has a C in the middle of the staff. If you look carefully at the clef sign at the beginning you will see the difference. Also they would be playing an octave below the violin parts. It just looks as though it is close.

Oh right ok so viola 1 and 2 is doing 1 octave lower than violin 3 and 4..... how many parts are we allowed to play? and is it ok if we used electric and acoustic violins?

Let's wait and see how many people participate but I am thinking that we should be all right with two each for those who want to play several parts. In my opinion, mixing in electric will just show our versatility. So yes on the electric :-)

I'm afraid that I will not have enough time to practice and get a video up for this as my violin will be arriving the first week of October. But I will be playing with you all in spirit! I'm sure it will turn out great! serenade

Sounds good to me ... the mute doesn't help the sound of course, but taking that into account, I only heard a couple of 'off' notes, and I love your style.

Thanks Robyn, most of my off notes were because of my 4th finger right?

I tried putting my elbow further right and tried to put more emphasis at the start of the notes for the accent ring effect, but I'm pretty sure I have a long way to go on that part.

The fourth finger wasn't bad at all. Worse the first time. Your intonation is much better. Your accents in the beginning are great. The note that bothered me was the F# on the E string for example at :44 and then again the next time.

For the project later, I would prefer that you lower the input gain on your webcam mic than to use the mute. I prefer the open sound.laugh

Otherwise, GREAT IMPROVEMENT, thanks for posting

Thanks, yea I just went back to that F note.... I'm about 1cm too low and I didnt even notice! D: I'll jot it down on my sheet so that I dont do it again. I didnt know you could change input gain, I'll look around for those settings instead of muting my violin :D

Well, I've done it again ... I watched Fiddlerman's video on this one, but now I can't find it.

Help please !!  I need to watch it again to get my bearings, I'm afraid I won't be up to scratch in time.

Cool

Thanks Chinny,

Every time I've gone to that page it only shows the pdf files, not the videos.

???????

Pierre, I usually use RealPlayer or Youtube downloader because my speed is so slow and it's frustrating to wait every time I want to watch it.  This one won't download, is that because it's unlisted, and can I download it somehow?  I've kept it open today so I can keep going back to it, but it might take more than one day to memorise all your techniques.

If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

A video being unlisted doesnt really have to do with it since you know the url. try sites like keepvid.com maybe you'll be able to download it that way instead.

The videos should show up below all those pdf files. If you can't find them I'll post them here.

For pure entertainment, I printed out the Viola parts. After writing in all the notes (reading music in Treble Clef is rusty enough, much less Alto/Viola), I gave the first few measures of Viola 2 a go.

My dog is traumatized, but with a chromatic tuner in my lap to check myself, I managed something vaguely recognizable and repeatable. I am actually pleased with myself, since I hadn't officially been cleared to start using the bow yet, and hadn't played any strings other than D and A.

Bouyed by my success, I managed to work out a C major scale by ear. Intonation was very hunt-and-peck, but I'm encouraged.

Too late to make a long story short, but I think I *might* be able to put together a passable Viola 2 part by the end of October. Maybe I can talk my son into Viola 1.
