I just picked this up at the violin shop today. (mainly for decorative purposes) It shows all 12 1st position major scales with open strings.
AND the 7 closed movable finger patterns for maj scale across 4 strings. this is way I play moving up the finger board. I began to memorize the 7 patterns many years ago, before I ever knew there was a fingering chart for this, or even if it was 'valid'.
I started off thinking of them as the C pattern or the A pattern etc. C, D, E, F, G, A, B = 7 patterns. The closed finger pattern for A would be the same as Ab etc.
After a while, I didn't hafta think about it too much, I could visualize the patterns in my minds eye.
when shifting, but keeping in the same Tonic, the patterns will change. BUT, that's a good thing, as the notes...licks, riffs, phrases 'fall to hand' differently and therefore will create variation.
Of course. these 7 patterns being major scales, can be used for all the modes.
anyone else do this??
