When you need to step back & take a deep breath, do you play anything specific to help calm your mind - so you can reflect upon what matters most in your life?

Do you have a favorite tune to play for meditation only?

My Daughter's been pretty ill this past few weeks, so with all the uncertainty I thought it might help to learn a new piece of music that would not be for the enjoyment of playing it, but for reflection and meditation.

Learning and playing something like this would be very different for me because normally I'd seek out this type music just for listening - not playing.

Thinking about learning, "On The Nature Of Daylight" (Entropy), by Max Richter.

...anyone have a favorite meditative piece to play on the Fiddle, Viola or Cello - and want to share it?

Best wishes for your daughter.

I don't meditate on the violin, I meditate on the flute.

But the best thing you can do on the violin is go back to much simpler pieces than the ones you are working on now. I've been looking at The Lark In the Clear Air again recently. There are always little things like smoothness of bow direction changing that can be improved upon without it seeming work rather than meditation.

@Gordon Shumway -

Thank you Andrew, that's a very beautiful suggestion.

I thought there was another thread along these lines that I could just add to, but I couldn't find it.

Ah HA!  Just found the thread I was originally looking for, in 'Polls', of all places. 🙄
