Sorry if this has been discussed before, if so I couldn't find the discussion. I'm curious what everyone uses for their shoulder rests?
I currently have a Kun collapsible. When I played in school I owned a Kun, so I grew up using Kun. When I returned as an older adult, I didn't even consider other types or brands.
Now that I have been looking around, the VLM Diamond has caught my eye, as the Fiddlerman wooden shoulder rest. I love the look of the Kun Seven but cannot justify that expense quite yet.
Looking forward to get everyones thoughts...

I use a VLM Professional on viola (my main instrument) and a Performa on violin. It took me years of trial and error to find the shoulder rests that worked best for me on both instruments.
VLM shoulder rests have slightly more curve than Kun, if that's important to you. The Diamond is more adjustable than the Professional, but the Professional stays on the instrument more securely.

@Kennon i think the forum is more a moment in time on what people have on their mind vs wiki or youtube. granted sometimes things are recent history topics, but its difficult to keep up with everything. Most things have been talked about.. but not by you probably so jump in! if you find a past topic thats what you want to discuss.. yeah sure.. but i wouldnt sweat searching too much.. Whoever started something similiar will most surely jump in with a link to it.

I have a VLM Diamond on my viola. I was looking for a shoulder rest that would not slip from my viola (as the Kun did), and the extra-adjustment possibilities looked helpful.
It was a 'choice' born out of a constraint though. I think the edges of my instrument (where the shoulder rest grips it) are a bit thin in some places. Or it's just that my posture was bad. In any case, I was having trouble playing with a shoulder rest because it was constantly slipping off (and played without one for the first few years) and VLM Diamond made it loads better.

One possibility worth thinking about, if you need to adjust the height beyond the shoulder rest's normal range or have problems with the shoulder rest slipping off the instrument, is to buy different feet. Most shoulder rest manufacturers sell replacement feet, and they're often available in multiple lengths.
Also, you can mix and match some brands. Kun, Muco/Artino, Everest, Mach One, and VLM all use the same diameter screw, so all their feet are interchangeable. For a while I was using a Mach One shoulder rest with Everest feet, both because I needed a lower height than what Mach One offered and because Everest feet attach more securely.
