LaFlamme's stuff is way over my head at this point, but I'd like to start studying now. I'm trying to pick up the solos on White Bird by ear, but it's slow, some sheet music would move things along. I remember once seeing a music book for the David LaFlamme Band, but I'm not seeing it on line.
Anyone know of a source for sheet music for LaFlamme or any of his bands?
Here's Donald and Dewey, another great rock violin performance from LaFlamme.

Found sheet music for "White Bird" here at http://musicnoteslib.com/
http://musicnoteslib.com/tabs/.....43635.html
It is listed as piano sheet music, but it has guitar and bass too. This appears to have both violin parts. It is a duet, although I don't think I've ever seen credit given to a second violinist and suspect it is LaFlamme overdubbing himself.
I've always thought the introduction in the song is pizzicato violin, but it is charted here as kalimba, an African thumb piano.
This will keep me busy for a long time.

well, this is an old post and I wonder if PopFiddle is still out there. oh, I see he's a regular advisor, so maybe.
Anyway just wanted to say I'm a big fan of this album, and I saw them perform it at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary Alberta around mid-70's? back then I had not started violin yet, was only playing guitar in teenage rock band. but I'm sure hearing that violin contributed to a subconscious desire to play.
...little anecdote. It was Cold in Calgary the night of the concert and the female singer made a comment...If I had known it would be this cold, I would have brought my Lover. She expected a reaction from the audience, but we all sat there silent. She was surprised when she didn't get one, and mumbled a harumph. (we're just simple prairie hippy's) so they launched into White Bird... then they got a reaction! Great Concert.

Yeah, I'm still here.
So, are you playing the violin? Can you play White Bird?
These days I'm pretty deep into classical, mostly because there is all kinds of sheet music to play requiring all kinds of different skills.
Yes, they were a great live show. I saw them once in Nevada City, CA in a street show.
I have a copy of the sheet music for White Bird, but it doesn't seem reliable, at least not to the recording. But even so, it's still pretty much beyond me so far. Maybe another couple years of practice will bring me up to speed.

PopFiddle: yes, I've been playing violin for about 40 years. I always say that I should be a lot better at it for the amount of time I've put into it. I don't read, mostly improv, except for about 30 busking tunes... old standards like Sunny Side of the Street, When You're Smilin', Summertime etc. but I play them pretty close to the vocal melody.
As for playing White Bird, I was just playing along with the you tube. The first melodic solo is in C mixolydian, and fairly easy to pick out by ear with a bit of time me thinks. The second solo is a different story, as it switches to C dorian, where he is able to use C min blues scale fragments and C min pentatonics, along with C dorian scale stuff, but it gets tricky, yes? those back and forth trills and accidentals he puts in...great solo!
I would not attempt to learn the second solo note for note, but I could put my own improv in, and would prolly sound alright....to someone who hasn't heard LaFlamme do it. I suspect he's had classical training, prolly from a young age.
I think it's a good route you've chosen, ie: 'Classical sheet music requiring all kinds of different skills'.
....one more anecdote... when I saw them, the last song they did was kind of a rock ho-down (I forget the name) One guy ran down to rush the stage.... a few seconds later everybody was down in front, jumping around.
nice chatting with you
