Hey there,
Now for the introduction in video. I'm used enough to filming myself and sharing... not totally comfortable with being that public though, so this will self-destruct in a few days.
I like many styles, not too picky… so here's irish :

or klezmerish :

Jazzy or tango I'm no good at… only started them a bit (well actually, klezmer too – it's only irish I spent quite some time on). So that'll be for later ! Still have a long way to go in all styles of course – but as long as it's fun …

@wtw Big WOW! That is some gorgeous sound you're pulling out of that small cello Thanks for posting (even if temporarily.) Nice inspiration from the perspective of someone 8 months in to this adventure.
Hope to hear more from you. In the meantime, off to practice and see if I can keep that E string from piercing my left eardrum (jealous mode over your deep, rich sound

Frage ...
My violin is a 3/4 violin, made for right-handed players, though I play it left-handed. As I felt she was the best in the shop of all 3/4 violins I tried and the luthier agreed. I prefer Obligato strings together with Eudoxa E string. Self-made bow, weight: 24 g / 0.85 oz

I share your concerns and am about to buy a baroque mask which does not cover the mouth so I can sing on YouTube. Usually I never use Lipstick but on Videos I will use a lot of it and extremely red one. Which will also distort the natural shape of my mouth. I consider my face part of my private data. Data they can technically already read and process. I want to make a video of my latest piece and I have to sing without giving away private data. It will work.
Jazz is a very special kind of music you have to focus and specialize on for quite some time. It includes learning harmony and it's advisable to use a keyboard for that to test things out. Because jazz chord sequences are way more complicated than those in folk. I've been a semi-professional jazz musician and suggest Aebersold play-alongs. Also I talked to many fulltime-professional jazz musicians who say that too.
Yes, your viola sounds great and you developed a very nice, warm tone.

Thanks guys .
Yes, my viola has a great sound. That makes me only half responsible for the result.
If you're going to write in another language, please make it french ? had to resort to google translate for that one... german's not my thing.
I guess I'm not paranoid enough yet, @Demoiselle. Actually you're right.
Trying to picture you with a mask – "the anonymous fiddler" ...
Jazz does sound like a lot of work. It'll probably wait a bit !

I was joking! Personally I'd never smile because the violin is so difficult. How do you smile if you have to concentrate so hard? Plus, personally I prefer bitter-sweet, so why would you smile? Today many women feel like they always have to smile. It's healthy to smile if you feel like smiling. Otherwise it shouldn't be forced.

Lady's of the early 1700s loved to use masks in public to be annonymous. The gossip could be terrible otherwise....
Jazz is really an addiction. Those who catch that want to do nothing else. It may be sort of slavery but addicts love it. LOL

I know you were loving what you were doing. In the first video, when you walked back to the camera, you had a christmas child's smile on, and deservedly so, for the amount of time you have been playing, you are way ahead of the level you should be at. Don't give away your credit to the instrument, It can only do what the player allows it to do.
Any time you are publicly performing, even if you hate the piece you play, even if you have a 104* temperature, your feet are soaking wet, the most miserable you can imagine, your facial expressions and your posture should reflect the piece you are playing. If it is happy, you appear to be happy. If it is sad, you can appear to be sad. I have gotten in more trouble over this than anything else because I don't smile and normally look like I am mad at the world. Trust me, on a saxophone, I can rip through "somewhere over the rainbow" and "what a wonderful world" as well as anyone who has ever picked up an instrument. Those are the first two songs I learned 42 years ago. In a competition, playing those songs in tandem, flawlessly, I lost to a young man with a better personality. He was okay, but shouldn't have won. I just look as mean as I am.
There is a saying that music has to live and breath, music expresses the soul, and even though that is true, and a person has the ability to give music a short yet beautiful life, you are being judged just as much on appearance as your playing ability.
Pierre plays the same scales, same music over and over, and he always looks like the happiest kid in the playground. Pierre is a showman, and that happy demeanor is just part of being a public musician.
If any one wants to have a better day, start off in the morning, in the mirror, smiling at yourself. Practice the smile. Tell yourself how beautiful you are, or how handsome you are, and how lucky you are to be you. It's not as easy to do as it is to say, but the truth is a hard pill to swallow. YOU, AND EVERYONE THAT READS THIS, WAS A BLESSING BORN INTO THIS WORLD. A GIFT TO EVERY OTHER BLESSING BORN INTO THIS WORLD. Just accept it, smile, love yourself, and love what you do.

I'm an amateur now and I do what I like. Once I was a professional and had to adapt to the market, now I'm free. There is no "must" in live if there isn't a reason. A private person has a right to have privacy and doesn't need to share with the general public. Something I really hated in the 90s.
I rather not speak German here since German is not at all a leading global language like English, French and Spanish. Not many people understand German.

There were moments when people asked me why I didn't smile. Well, mostly I don't and that's okay. There are other moments, when I'm outspokenly happy or silly and then I will smile a lot. But that widespread "keep smiling" ideology is not my philosophy. Some people work in call-centers where they force employees to smile all day. Which is downright cruelty.
