too funny @stringy.. it seems ok. i didnt measure but figured it would be ok with fiddle being main thing i spend the most time on. thanks!@mouse a cello will for sure be added down the road. i wouldve went that route and honestly spent more time looking at them but i thought i could get quicker use out of the viola for now. thanks!
@SharonC just trying to mix it up a bit. got some ideas from jims blog and thought a good place to try them out. thank you!

@ABitRusty -
Did you use the same brand/style of shoulder rest on your viola, that you use on your violins?
I've been back & forth whether or not to even use a shoulder rest.
Didn't want to go through the hassle of drastic modifications - like on my violin Bon Musica, so trying the low Resonans. ...it's growing on me.
Still trying to figure out the best position, e.g., how far forward and angle - so I have the least drastic changes in both arm movements. Awkward & very aware I have to bow farther away from my body, while still bowing straight. ...should've practiced 'Sul Tasto' on my Violin! (lol)
There's not a lot of difference in the left hand, of course my arm is more outstretched - little wider interval spacing on the fingerboard.
🤔 Also the string spacing is wider - I notice a pretty big difference in fast string-crossing. Turns out, the arch is also much more pronounced on my new Carbon Composite Bridge - much taller in the center!
...not so sure that's a good thing, but we'll see.
I do have a set of Zyex strings on the way - like to try them in place of the Larsen originals. The A string, especially, is too thin - uncomfortable for as much as I like to play on it. I think it's possible to get more out of strings than what I'm hearing, so if the Zyex make a difference, I might try a few others.
...just found out Fiddlershop can get Virtuoso strings for Violas! 🤗
My first impressions comparing my Glasser 5-string AEX Violin vs. 16" Glasser 5-string (acoustic) VIOLA:
- The rich matte finish on my Viola is BEAUTIFUL & feels wonderful!
- The new Carbon Composite Bridge basically disappears - blends perfectly with the tailpiece and fingerboard! THANK YOU, ANDREW GLASSER - so happy you made this work - love it!
- I expected the Viola to be heavier, overall - so I was pleasantly surprised! Like to make note; realizing it may not be aesthetically pleasing to remove it, but if the scroll on a CF instrument doesn't have magical powers - I'd remove it, just to lighten that end. ...I'm a wimp. (lol)
- The sound generated is completely different on my Viola! Like talking down in a well, in comparison to my Violin - with all it's sound on the 'surface'! First, I wondered if I preferred my violin - I mean I worked a LONG time to get THAT sound. Then yesterday, I only played the Viola. Now, I just played both... my perception has changed! My VIOLIN seems changed the most - now sounding like an early phonograph, is what came to mind! (lol)
- Think the shape of the Bridge (prev mention) might take me a couple days to get used to.
- Okay, already touched on hand & arm 'logistics'. (lol)
I will do a comparison in a video, shortly!
It's all I can do, since I don't have experience with any other viola and haven't touched a wooden violin since I was in 4th grade.
...yep, gonna have to try the 'F' string, too! 😁

THANK YOU, FIDDLERMAN & THE FIDDLERSHOP!
Appreciate you went above & beyond the call of duty!
