Hey guys! I wrote this yesterday but had technical problems posting until today:

Hello!  ive posted a few replies but have yet to formally introduce myself. I'm Cade. I'm a 24 year old beginner from Oklahoma. I'm a mechanic, and I have some experience with guitar and 4 years of saxophone which I played in school, but haven't touched for six or seven years since. I always wanted to play violin but my school didn't have an orchestra program, so I started clarinet and moved to saxophone. I recently found this site and decided to take the plunge. My Concert violin arrived from fiddlershop yesterday, and I've had about 3 hours to start figuring it out so far. I've decided to record a video of myself about once a week at first to track my progress and keep me motivated/involved in the forum. dont go too hard on me, I'm brand new! Thanks guys, I'm sure I will be making some friends here.

this is just a short clip showing my violin and playing Pierre's g string exercise, and some fooling around for fun. Next time I may try a simple song.

Hey CJ!

Welcome to the forum.  Loved the 'virtuoso mode' hehe

Congrats on your fiddlerman Concert violin and taking the plunge.  Fiddlerman, his sites and this community are what inspired me to do the same a couple of months ago.  Lots of beginners like you and more seasoned musicians to give us good constructive helpful feedback.

Enjoy your first days don't be shy to post :)

Hey CJ, that was really cool! I hope to be a virtuoso like that. The best thing of playing the violin is that you can do it freely you can move and feel the music through your body. Cool video. Keep posting!!! :D

Hahahaha, no but I will have my trustworthy understudy transcribe it and fax it over post-haste. Thanks everyone. I got frustrated for a bit today, but then managed to "ear out" Londonderry air and that made me feel better- actually playing something I could recognize. I've come to realize violin is much harder and more awkward to play than I had previously imagined!

Don't give up! We've all been there and at times we still are! Even if you are an advanced player, you will have great days, good days and days you actually wanna forget about. Enjoy this very first stage where you are getting to know your instrument, when you are trying to adjust your body to the violin. It is something that takes time. You can do it man, just keep going!

Hi CJ and welcome!  That was truly an epic first video, introducing the cat first as we all know he/she would find a way to make an appearance somehow down the road anyways lol.  You did an awesome job for being on day 1, really!  Keep up the exercises and practice, you'll be a virtuoso in no time :) .  Gideon (my bengal mix cat) about hit the ceiling when he heard one of your cats meow in the background, he's running around the house right now trying to figure out who invaded his territory and where they are lmao!  Looking forward to seeing your progress videos in the future.

@CJ121 > the cat ROCKS!! > this Viddle thing is truly a ride. > the bow must be parallel to the bridge. > Scales, Scales, Scales > then ROCK OUT!!! > I am finding that the viddle is not so easy to just play, it needs much attention, like a fine LADY> the fruits of ones attention can bring musical orgasms. > The viddle is SWEET!!!

SUPER entertaining video CJ121. You got me laughing on quite a few occasions. Great entertainment already so early in the game. That is what it's all about.
There have been many players that have intended to post weekly or even monthly videos but sooner or later they stop. :-(
Anyway, here are a few tips to begin with. While doing these exercises, focus on keeping the fingers closer to the fingerboard. On the right hand, try to curve that pinky and keep it on top of the stick.
Keep em coming!!!
