I have that in my book as well, can you do the double note version? Also encourage you to follow and try to play along with this guy, caution he is quick.

Hey PF that fiddler is great! I have not played with him but I have the Suzuki cd that I play along with. I can do the double note version but not very well with the cd, but I am able to play with the cd up to the Etude. That one had been difficult for me to memorize and just last week I finally made it through.
I need to try the Etude with the cd- maybe this week.

@Schaick- memorization is great, and its good you can play with the cd. I think cadenzastringsnc does play it a bit peppier than the cd does.
@wookieman- That tune is also in the Suzuki repetoire.
Great Job you guys, keep at it!

OK so a couple of days ago was my 'monthiversary' with a violin. I started exploring EE Book 2 today. Apparently there's a rite of passage to post a little recital at the end of a method book, or at least that's what Picklefish convinced me of So here goes my smiling nervous attempts. All constructive criticism from this great community is very welcome to help me improve.
I'm still playing an unplugged electric for now and I'm playing to SmartMusic in the background for the fun of it.

Song 182 - Surprise Symphony Theme (Just starting to try staccato. It's fun! and probably poorly done)

Bonus Track - Pedal to the Medal - I forced myself to use 4th finger and not cheat. My first 'rocker' type song

Song 1- the squeeks I believe come from uneven bow speed. Try to keep the bow moving at a consistent speed through out the tune rather than allowing it to slow down. The bow distribution exercises really helped me with this. In other words, dont create a longer note by bowing slower, rather use more of the bow to hold the note.
Song 2-I think if you try to do staccato using more of a wrist and finger thrust rather than from the for arm it might go better for you. Pierre would know better than I.
Song 3-Pedal to the Metal definately has the Deep Purple "Smoke on the water" vibe to it. Maybe variation on that theme.
Congratulations on completing book 1!!! You are doing fantastic for only 1 month into it!

@Georganne That's really lovely. I might buy that book and try to learn some of this.

Thank you both. I apologize for the video quality. We were on our way out the door when I saw this so just handed my daughter my phone and said "Here, record this for me."

Oops! Thanks for pointing out Pierre @Fiddlerman. Here they are again but I rerecorded the Bonus Track moments ago as the violin was too soft and the music too loud last time. The other two are same as yesterday that Picklefish commented on.
I'm going to keep reviewing EE book 1 even though I'm letting myself start a bit on book 2 for the variety I have a loooong way to go to make it sound good and have good technique for the book 1 stuff!

@wookieman Hey great job on the minuet! I'm actually just starting to work on that piece too! I really love your bow control and how you use so much of the bow. It's something I really have to work on.

Thanks and I can't WAIT to get it. Counting the days till I return from Spain and experience acoustic for the first time, and not just any but my own cherished acoustic!
