I use a Fiddlerman Carbon Fiber Bow, and since I keep my fiddle out all day long, picking it up often for a quick practice here and there, I sometimes forget to loosen the bow hair after using it. I know when using a wooden bow this can be detrimental, but is it (as) detrimental for a carbon fiber bow?

@MoonShadows and others.  The cf bow should be fine.  The hair would have a tendency to deform (stretch) if left tightened over an extended period of time.  I doubt if a day or two would have a noticeable effect on the hair.

Thanks @Irv That's what someone else on the Adult Starters group told me...the hair would stretch before the cf bow would deform.

The good thing about the FM Carbon Fiber bow is that it's cost is the same as a re-hair... You can leave it tightened and it should be OK at least till it's time for a new re-hair. If you get a new Fiddlerman Carbon Fiber bow and are choosing to get a new one instead of a re-hair, just call and ask for $10 off and we'll give it to you.

Thanks @Fiddlerman

I am actually thinking of upgrading to a Pernambuco bow when I can.

Something I found out recently that was a surprise to me is that my cello teacher (Helsinki Orchestra) said that he now prefers to play with a composite bow vs a pernambuco or other wood. He says it is more stable and forgiving to environments and sound quality is as good. Really surprised me.

@Heinrich I have read similar stories. CF bows seem to have come a long way. I wonder if they will become more popular, some day, than wood.

I like both for separate reasons. The stability is a good one for the composite bows.

I have a basic CF JonPaul that I bought based on a blind listening test compared to a few wood bows. Never would I have thought my ears would pick that bow. That bow is very light and well balanced too.

I have the Fiddlerman CF bow. Probably one of the best values out there. Plays ok for most stuff I play.

I go back and forth on bows and what I think I like to hear. Of course, that problem isn't the bow.

Jim not directed at you. I was talking about me smile I'm very fickle about what I think sounds good. It seems to change by the day. I once swore off CF bows like vampires to garlic. The only thing I have in common with them is we both suck.

I am seriously looking at the higher end John Paul bows. There seems to be a huge difference between the low end CF and the others. I say "seems" because I can't be entirely sure. Only going by comments from experienced players. I want it to look like wood though. Tricks my brain.

10% off is a great sale no matter which you choose.
