Lost my "A" tonight. > Strange~~ the outer covering sort of disintegrated on the string down on the finger board. Had to play it like a tuned down to "G" thing. SOooo I will be placing an order tomorrow from fiddlershop.com for 2, mind you, 2 sets of strings so next time I can just pop one on. SOoooo > I have no viddle now {for the moment} > I'm ok with that > I need a break from it >> It is a crazy RIDE!!!
The good thing > I am gonna pick up my guitar and hang with it until I get my strings AND~~~ I'm a gonna get me one of those fiddlerman bows.

@ StoneDog: If the A string that broke was the "Zyex" A string, D'Addario had a bad batch of "Zyex" string's several month's ago. The problem has since been corrected. The two set's of "Zyex" string's I bought had both A string's unravel, both in the peg box and one of the two also started with a nick between the bridge and tailpiece.
This has been confirmed with, Mike at Fiddlershop.
A couple week's ago I called the Fiddlershop to inquire if there had been any other problem's with the A string's unraveling, Mike said he hadn't heard of any other complaint's or problem's and while I was talking with, Pierre, Mike called D'Addario and they said they had had a problem with only the Zyex and the problem had been remedied.
This thread remind's me, I have to call, Mike again, he said, D'Addario was sending him some replacement string's and to call him the following week and he would send two new A string's to replace the defective one's and I totally forgot to call.

@ Fiddlestix: Yep it was a "Zyex" A string. OH CRAP!!! I just order 2 more sets. I hope they have attended to the problem. I thought it might be just a worn out thing. I do put my viddle through some stuff. Inside, outside, rain, dirty fingers, etc. Oh CRAP!!
They were about 4 months old and I play it every day. Well~~~ guess I will find out. Thanks for the heads up. I really like those strings.

About six months ago, I had a bad G string in a set of Preludes. I sent a message to D'addario about it, and they cheerfully sent me a replacement by Fedex. IDK why they didn't send it by first-class mail. It must have cost a lot more to send it in a six-inch cardboard box. Anyway it was good service.

It's always nice to have a set of extra strings. I put on a set of new dominant strings on my daughter's new violin, and I wasn't even tuning it hard and it snapped. That's the first time I have a violin string snapped on me, and it's brand new! I guessed it was not a good string to start with because it seemed like it was folded when I took it out of the package. I will have to order an extra E string now.
