Question About Strings and Playing Ease
Do all strings play the same or are some harder to play on? I noticed something about my Obligatos, love the sound, but my playing has deteriorated since putting them on.

@Irv roflol Whatever will we do!? I wasn’t sure what you were talking about. To be clear, for everyone, I live in the state of Confusion, President and CEO, actually. I also take things very literally, even though I don’t mean things literally when I talk. How exasperating is that? So bear with me.

I love your info in the hole in the heart thread. I don’t think I want to file the holder in the tailpiece for the G string, though, if I ever use a different brand G string, might that make that slot too big for different brands of strings? If just stringing it from peg box end up will solve the problem, that is fine. It actually makes sense. It is just too fat right above the ball, above that, the wrapped string is fine. I would just thread it up carefully until that spot and then just tune it and watch that end just like I keep an eye on the bridge. Hey, I didn’t even pop my bridge last night when I swapped out my strings. Twice in a row I did it without popping the bridge! Woo hoo!

I have probably driven you bonkers! Keep us posted in that hole in the heart thread.

Just did another with the Fiddlerman strings, still love them. I just find it amazing, hpw different they sound on the Rudoulf Doetsch compared to the Revelle 500QX.

Hi @@Mouse and others.  A thin slot on the g string (and sometimes on the d string) portions of the tail piece is a very common problem.  The ball should seat well before you apply peg tension to avoid issues.

For American strings we usually look at D'Addario.
I would recommend that you try Kaplan Amo CID. They are not as hard as the Obligatos and tend to be on the darker softer side. I'm glad you are liking the Fiddlerman Strings that you put back on as well. :) Unfortunately, not made in America. :(

I was actually thinking of the Kaplan Amo. I would have just ordered them, but I had a set of Fiddlerman that I took off my Revelle when Imhad it, only because that violin did not agree with them. They still have a lot of life left, so decided to try them. Ordered another set yesterday, but will, try the Kaplan Amo, too. I like a slight change once in a while.

By the way, in the video you did comparing the Dominant with Fiddleman, they were extremely similar. I had to,listen extemely close to hear a difference. For my taste, I did prefer the Fiddlerman. They are a bit softer or mellower sounding. It is an ineresting video.

Thanks.

They are nice on my Doetsch. I think mine are the newe ones. I bought them around Dec 2018. They have the white/lavender wrappings at the tailpiece end. I like them right now. I seem to like to change up once in a while. Have the Kaolan Amos in my cart. Debating the srring cleaner. I keep using a micro fiber cloth, but have issues with the undersides and between the strings. Sitting on it for a little. Just ordered three items today.

This violin monkey business is as bad as my machine knitting monkey business. One was given to me, and what a riot! Then I bought three. The gift one did not work exactly right, would not trust it to make a sweater. They are really old and the free one, has no parts available. Not many people machine knit, so they are hard to find in good shape. Since you can’t change needles, you need all three sizes to be able to use pretty much any yarn. So, now I have 3 machines too heavy for me to swap out (65 lbs a piece), and a bunch of yarns. Oh, the smalles needle one is a plastic bed and I can lift that one. Thether two are metal beds. Too heavy.

Three violins, three cellos, a viola, and a bunch of strings I keep trying. Did not expect this. 😁 The good thing is that these intruments are light enough for me to get out without bugging my husband. banana

@Mark I actually did read that. I watched Fiddlerman’s video and a video by another person, and read that article. I was happy to find it because that was about the newer version, the videos were the older version.

I am liking them so far. I have the Kaplan Amo in my shopping cart at Fiddlershop.com. I am waiting for information on a product I asked about before submitting my order. The other product is under $25, so if the answer to my question is what I hope for, I will add that, if not, I will just order the Kaplan Amos.

I like that, my untrained ears, are hearing what these professionals are hearing in these strings. I can’t be too far off in understanding what I am hearing, at least with these strings. I will, have a better understanding of what I read strings I have not used, but still keeping their opinion part as to what they are, opinions.

Cynthia, let me know if you don't get the answer soon. I know we get a lot of email but we need to step up our game if we are taking too long to reply.
Thanks for your business. :)

Thanks. I got my answer and placed the order. I didn’t know if the string cleaner could be cleaned after using. Fiddlershop (Michael?) sent a link for a video showing how its done. Ordered after watching the video.

Supposed to get a different order, with the earplugs and Non-Whistling E String, tomorrow. Can’t wait. The purple foam Rite Aides muffle the sound.

Thanks for letting me know to let you know if I hadn’t heard.
