Questions re: Zyex strings for AV and EV
How do the Zyex compare to the new FM strings? I've been very happy with the Zyex but need to get another set of strings.

Hi Pierre and everyone!

I have had the Zyex w/ Silver D on my main AV for over 2 years and they made a great difference in how I feel about my playing! I am still happy with them, but need new strings for my 2nd AV, and also my 20+ year old Yamaha Silent Violin.

I am curious about the new FM strings, but am thinking it is better use of my limited $$ to get 2 more sets of the Zyex.  I'm not sophisticated enough to notice things like changes in bow responsiveness, speed, etc.  I just know that my confidence and desire to practice has increased because my violin has just sounded better with the Zyex strings.  I don't even know if I actually NEED to change them.

I guess I'm just asking if there is any reason to try a different kind of strings.  If I have all Zyex and one breaks, I'll have a replacement readily available. But is a different kind of string more appropriate for my old EV, which I don't play a lot anymore anyway?

The sound I get from the Zyex seems mellow and sweet compared to the inexpensive Dominants I had before. I like mellow and sweet better than bright and loud, especially since I am now wearing hearing aids in both ears. (but that's for another post...)

If I get another set of the Zyex and also a set of the FM's, which should I put on the old Yamaha Silent Violin?  I know Fiddlerman can change a set of strings in about 10 seconds, but it takes me a LOT longer than that, or I'd try each of them on both.  Plus, I hate changing strings.

The Zyex strings might be more powerful.
Both are great to test on that instrument. Don't think you can go wrong.
