I was over on the Fiddlershop site ordering some strings and I saw this used Rudolf Doetsch fiddle for sale for $999.  I've played on these before and they sound pretty darn good -- well -- OK -- when played by somebody besides me.  Generally these go for about $2k.  

If you're looking for a deal on an advancing student violin, you might want to give this a look.
