thanks for the feedback @elcbk. I know what youre saying about pulse. Yes I pretty much learned it from her videos and virtual sessions by listening and then practicing it. I also have always listened to Martin Hayes version alot. I need to try and practcing more of the ornaments and placing them in...but nit always at same place. fun tune to play around with. feel like time recording is what helped learn it better.
@mouse thanks! I think i like my playing in the 2nd one more too. I got alot out of putting that 1st one together thpugh. I like it too but it could be alot better.

@ABitRusty -
I think the pulse in your last video bowing (love it) could also be considered an ornament.
I've been trying to think of bowed & fingered ornaments in a different light this past year - like how they can help me 'extend time', or how they can help me set up a groove. When fast tempos make 'space between notes' more difficult, adding something percussive can help make me more aware of space & time (if that makes sense 🥴). Relating to things like 'the purpose of a drum roll' (causing focus & anticipation?)... still exploring.
feel like time recording is what helped learn it better.
...okay - I can take a hint. 😉

I think it is the clarity, purity, simplicity and folksy sound that suits that song so well.🐭
yes a totally different approach if i can call the prior an approach. For me theres more than just the fiddle going on. its a puzzle with the video, other instruments, the tune itself and recording. Its a thing to experiment with. Always being mindful that that is one thing and the tune fiddled in a more traditional sense is another. just passing time in the workshop so to speak.
@elcbk wasnt hinting or anything. just blabbling about my time spent. it wasnt 1 take and done. 🙂 took some time to learn it and play.

@ABitRusty , I love both renditions of Po Ha’Penny!
Each has such a different feel. (Reminds me of workshops I’ve taken where we try to play a single piece in as many different ways as possible.)
I love the very steady driving rhythm in your second version. Your bow control is clearly evident! I love the way you get the fiddle to actually talk through the nuances within a single bow stroke. That’s a technique that classical players strive for but so many fiddlers overlook. Sounds great!
You mention that you have a fiddle teacher. Do you mind if I ask who your teacher is? Online lessons or in person? Thanks!
Looking forward to your next piece.

I take in person lessons that arent regular. for instance maybe 2 this month ...then skip a month..then may e a group class or 2 that month... maybe a lesson here and there. then 3 or 4 months nothing.
I was more consistent the 1st year or so though.

You clearly are a devoted student with a lot of musical talent, @ABitRusty . Your teacher must be pretty good as well. You’ve made consistent and truly noticeable progress over the years posting here.
I had a childhood full of classical violin lessons, then took a long hiatus playing my other instruments. Picking up the violin again several years ago pursuing fiddle styles, I‘ve found a great online instructional program. But, I’d really like to find a good in-person fiddling instructor, too. Not easy to find. There’s no substitute for the live feedback and guidance of a good teacher.
Thanks for the reply.
