I just thought it could be pretty amazing idea to view your performance notated like an orchestral score.

Vln 1, Vln 2, bass line (guitar?), drums, banjo, etc...

...think my post is fixed now - it was a ghost!  🤭

I love that, @ABitRusty. I love the feel, the rhythm, etc. All of it.

This one can really be played a bunch of ways.. doesnt need to be fast ..in my opinion.  He isnt playing this slow so much as the feeling he is putting into it as usual.. Obviously known for that 🙂.. juat sharing in case people havent seen it.  he also has a track of it on an album

Wow that's a great tune, never heard  it before either. Really like the tone of that fiddle as well, and his playing. Obviously though not as good as yours;) Thanks for posting it.

Did a quick recording on phone of this after notating out bowings.   This is how I felt it and bowings sorta fell this way for me..except the first measure which i naturally want to slur the triplett..thats a change.

not good audio but im gonna record better later.  the pdf of the music with bowings is below.  maybe something someone likes...idk..

@ABitRusty -

I REALLY LOVE your playing of 'Miss Monaghan'!

The session has this one being a reel.  It looks & fits more like a 'hornpipe' to me... maybe its the phrase endings, but definitely feelin' a little swing in the groove!

Know you might be driving home the metronome point with that drum beat, but... 😖

Appreciate your notation with bowing markings/slurs!

Thank you!

Oh yes...i was totally intentional with that.   probably at my breakover point from swing to more straight.   but ill always try and swing them more at this tempo.

thanks!

The Canadian topic got me thinking about this one which i posted over there but realized it said NOT quebecois... but then one of the videos had some quebecois and meteis...and cape breton emily!! 🤨🙂  so confusin'  🫣

anyway... Andre Brunet taught this in a fiddle hell online workshop a couple years ago and decided to dust it off and try it again.   fun beginner type quebecois reel as i understand.  im a bit rusty with it.  🙄 facepalm sry..

anyway.. hope he does another fiddle hell online again soon.  fun instructor.  VERY funny and full of energy.

heres my best quebecois..all i gots

@ABitRusty  Great playing!  Neat, upbeat tune--I can imagine people stomping along with it smile

Mark, Mouse, Sharon Thank you!

mouse..  just a bit of humor.. 🙂

sharon "stomping along"  i think so too..really like that sound.  I dont believe Ive heard one dark or sad-ish sounding tune in that genre   seems like the party time fiddle style.  im sure theres 100s or 1000s of tunes there but from what little ive listened to gives me that impression.

@ABitRusty -

Wonderful playing of Reel a Castonguay!

Thank you for sharing this tune!

I know André uses an awful lot of double stops & I'm going to have to remember to look at his tunes when I get around to working on mine (which I've neglected)!

About the Canadian threads - yeah, I'm not doing a very good job of it.  There is a French Canadian Fiddle Tunes Thread that covers almost everything other than Cape Breton ("Irish, Scottish, English, Cape Breton" topic heading), Canadian Critters Thread & Fiddling in The Canadian Yukon Territory Thread

We really do need a separate topic heading for all the Canadian genres, instead of just 'International'.

I suppose, since most Canadian music seems to have at least some roots in French (except Cape Breton), I might as well move my Brian Pickell posts over to the French Canadian thread, for now.

Here is a Scottish Strathspey.

Its called The Miller of Drone

I learned it by watching this VIDEO on The Good Tune youtube channel

I made this cheesey scene for you to watch while you listen to me attempt to play it.

I didnt mix any backup for it.  Right now I couldnt do it justice without some time and just liked this melody and thought Id share me playing it and where I heard it first.    Theres other ways ways to play this..Cape Breton.. but you can post them over in the other topic threads 🙂.   This version is played in more of a country dance vibe from what Kevin says in the behind the scenes video on their patreon.  And I think i favor his version more than a driving type that may be heard.

That has a very different feel and pattern to it, I personally like its pulse and feel.

Well done.

Got drive & really nice 'Scotch snaps'!

You going to be able to catch Kevin Lees's 2 workshops tomorrow (er... later today 😆) at Fiddle Hell?  Saw he has one on Sunday, too!
