Sounded GREAT!
You got the groove going!
You reminded me of a great set played by Áed, with "The Mill House" as one of the tunes... I need to post about them, some great music.
Btw, think you are being too hard on yourself about Whalley Range - you'll get it to your liking!
Thanks for sharing this - it's nice to hear what you are working on. 🤗

Fiddled a few tonight. Drunken landlady, mooncoin (jig), Em TTF, George Whites, In Memory of Coleman. Tried to keep relaxed. Noticed I still had some choppy sounding Repeal the Union and tried concentrating on NOT doing that. Last run through here.
She is telling me "STOP LOOKING"
2nd round killed by phone.. saved by the bell i guess.

That was some extremely pleasant playing!
...I'm running out of ways to describe how much I enjoy listening to you play!
Love the groove!
I learn tunes very quickly now, but it seems to take me forever to get them 'smooth'... and when I do, they don't seem to make it to a recording. (lol)
I have to remind myself, most of the folks who inspire me have been playing tunes for 2, 5... 10 times as many years as most of us have been.
You sound well beyond your time!
My very 1st Kitty looked like her - I'd whistle a B4 (didn't know the tone by name, back then) & she'd come running, wherever she was outside or in the house.
Okay, going to show my ignorance, again - I like to show it's me actually playing, but there's times my hair's a mess, dentures hurt, stuff on my side table, cat hair on the pillow behind me, etc... you get the picture. (lol) How do you record on your phone, but use a photo - instead of a yourself playing?

Thank you @Mark and @elcbk .
Elcbk I use an app called youcut pro on my phone and upload it directly to youtube within that app. Theres very minimal editing involed. basically add the audio, choose a picture, drag the picture on the timeline so it stays visible through the whole audio, then save and upload to youtube...all within that program. Any video editing software will work. For the audio I use another app called hi-q recorder but any audio recording app would work...even voice memo.
These short..what i did tonight type videos work best with this method. If I was recording me playing into other mics and with video of that, Id use another editor like resolve or premiere elements since all the audio would be on computer and not my phone.

If you DID edit the sound in this video - I like it, sounds natural.
Thanks - you described the process very well!
I'm getting so lazy in my old age that I'm about ready to just point my phone facing the TV screen to record video, with the ROKU fish swimming around - while it records my sound! 🤭

no edits as far as audio..just some photo edits with cropping and such.
i pulled my music stand over and set the phone on it. I think the back of the stand sorta cuts some of the room noise out and helps with that some.
i actually think the fish tank is a good idea.!!

This felt better than it sounded. I had played du petite sarny in the past but not as well as this. its relative.. And the notes came but its not an easy one for me. The 2nd repeat on the B part goes from open D to B then C and up the scale on D string. Something about the bowing is trippy feeling.
Ive been playing the black rouge and guess thats why it worked its way in. I play it better but coming out of sarney think my fingers were getting crossed up
Dont feel like you need to reply just due to a post. I know ive been putting alot up. Just a thing right now 😀 kinda gives a goal for end of night. Its just another screech and squawk vid.

SWEET!
I think your fingers played a good game of Twister!
Was du petite sarny a Fiddle Hell tune, or is this a fairly common set?
Love the video - special fx were cool, nice photo of the SR 71 (we have a 'B' model on the other side of the State), but what did you do to your poor cat? (lol)
Enjoyed it!

thanks @Mark ! Midnight shifts.. good shift if can deal with sleep deprivation. Ive gotten to point where thats more and more difficult.
@elcbk thanks.. I heard sarny off a "portland selection" cd that i ordered to go with the books. I know Eric was a fiddle hell instructor but i dont know if he taught it. I havent heard anyone play it here and that set was just something i threw together.
The '71 was at Lackland on the parade field with several other aircraft. my fav was the b52 they had on display.

Powered up presonus and recorded in it tonight using a mic. The tune is In Memory of Coleman. The first version I heard of this was recorded by Athena Tergis on pandora. I havent spent any time trying to figure her version out. One thing I think I know is that she isnt in Dm or F. And pretty sure not Eb. But she plays a killer version.
My favorite part of this is the B section which to me makes this tune. Especially measure 21 and 22. The A part is nice bit my phrasing isnt anything but a long string of notes. As time goes by Id like to be able to add more ornaments and break up the notes some. Add some longer ones and vibrato. I tried holding notes here and ther but still gets to be just a train of eighths. still a great tune in my opinon. Im really liking F right now. hopefully intonation decent enough not to be distracting.
I used a version that was close on thesession.

Sounds WONDERFUL!
Great tune & love your ornaments.
Thanks for sharing this - really enjoyed listening!
About the run of 8th notes - I know it probably doesn't mean much what the sheet music shows here, but it shows the notes are never grouped more than 4. Just saying it gives you a hint that you don't have to make it sound like 8 notes are played in a run (not saying you do that). Isn't there also still room, if you need to break it up, to experiment within 2 beats - a sub-rhythm within a run of 4 notes? I think Athena does a heavier 1 & 3 in those groups - maybe throws in an ornament in place of a group - I only listened a little.
I think Athena might be playing tuned up a half step - and in D# Harmonic Minor. There's a lot of sharps!
Don't think there's a hand position name for playing a half step up across all the strings (?) but if you try it, I think you'll find it easier to play her version in this one position (reg tuning)... anyway, I did.
I've been having a hard time pushing notes, that need emphasis, past what I think they should be played. To get more control I have to 'over-exaggerate' first, and I'm finding adding vibrato to the notes that I want to try lengthen, helps me get that in my head.
I know you'll get things to feel like it fits - no matter how you choose to play it. 😊

Great info Emily and thank you! I knew at least she was playing G# and a D# but left at that. Like the way you explain the 2 note grouping! Ill be experimenting with different things and see where this leads. thank you!
