"Amazing" is not a word that comes to mind when it comes to considering my skill level with less than a week of actual playing on a viola - unless you're talking about the fact that I haven't driven my family away, yet... ;-)

Fading out would have to mean you can hardly hear it but here goes !

OK.

Did you hear anything ?

Told ya !

==============================================

However I would assume that all parts should make an effort to fade out together(?)   This is probably another t(r)ick track thing.

I noticed on the Viola parts, next to the 50-60 at the top, it indicates that a dotted half-note equals a quarter note.

Can that be right? dunno

Don't bet your money but I think that means that a dotted half note (one measure) would equal one beat but we know that it is really 3 beats per measure at 3/4 time signature.  So us regular people would play 50 = 150 beats per minute or a factor 3.   The metronome can be set for 150 bpm and all is well.

I'm sure there is a very good reason for all this confusion but I can't imagine what that is (?)   (Must be a Baroque thing)

Yep, Oliver's right. It is played as if there is one beat per measure at 50 bpm. But it's ok if you're really counting 1-2-3 in your head.violin-student

Soooooo …. I've now got my tuner/metronome thingy, and I've set it to 60, as instructed on the videos.  This is so damn hard, I can't keep the thing in good time, it keeps slowing down when I'm in the middle of the tune … then speeds up when I slow my playing.

Bugger!

But I think we're starting to get the flow of each other, and hopefully it will start to behave a little better soon.

I hope so, I know, I'm running out of time.

I've been listening to the Violin 4 part (which is the same as the Viola 2 part) via the handy MP3 file and am curious…

…other than repeatedly breaking a string, how am I supposed to make that "rifle-shot" sound in measures 1 and 2?

coolwink

It's not in the MIDI file.

So is it 60 or 50bpm?

Personally, I would think 50bpm is better because we are trying to "make" bell sound, lower bells have longer sound unless we are all playing high bells.

I want to know what everyone is working on and how it feels before choosing the final tempo. The slowest tempo I might choose is 50 and the quickest will probably be 60. The best thing you can do is practice at 60 to be ready for the quickest alternative.

Good luck everyone, and time is approaching now.crossedfingers

I would prefer it too MGN,

Does anyone have a favorite or suggested drum loop or beat that you would like me to use in my click track? I haven't really chosen anything yet but can use just about anything.

I think i can manage 60. do you think i should still do violin 1? I saw you're using a mac, if no one has a drum beat there are plenty of default ones in garage band laugh

Been trying violin 1 at 55 and seems doable.  60 is ragged.

If 60 is final speed I will just drop down to another part.  No sweat.
