I think that I would like to play on the Messiah Stradivarius which is worth about 200 million US dollars.

Geeze! I would like to be able to afford to buy it! I would let you play it!

Its funny, when we went to the museum to see it, people were walking straight past, without giving it a second glance, not knowing that it is probably the most expensive instrument in the world, and definately the most expensive artifact in the museum, it sits alongside the first Amati, as well as several other strads.

I've read 200 million dollars, but I've also read 20 million. LOL
I mean what is the difference right???? A million here, a couple hundred million there....

Thanks Cynth. :)

The real sad thing is that it's not played on. If the information that I have read is correct it was played in 1891 and then 1940. WTHHHHHHH

The museum should have a famous soloist play on it annually in a well chosen and guarded event.... It was made to be played on.

I agree. Someone should be chosen to play it every month.

@Fiddlerman Isn’t it better for one to be played, rather than sitting around, even if it is in a museum? I mean, isn’t it better for the overall “health” of the instrument?

Thanks @stringy I am loving my new Musical Journey and in the process of doing a Rota to fit all the Instruments in. The keyboard app i am using is actually a great help with reading music and it's funny that learning something on 1 instrument can help you learn something on another. My fingers are in a bit of a state and am mainly on Keyboard learning or on Harmonica which i have always wanted to learn. I thought that while i am in the buying Instruments mood why not. It's a Lee Oskar Diatonic and a really nice Harmonica, it's nice plus handy to learn at any time. Was watching a film last night on Netflix and chugging away on the Harmonica. My main problem now is space, my living room can only take so much lol. It's pretty crowded but am having so much fun playing them all. I haven't been this happy in years lol.

glad al the instruments are keeping you busy, never tried harmonica myself, once srarted rhe tin whistle but the neigbhbours complained so I gave it up. Keyboard apparently goes hand in hand with violin. you will soon be a one  man band, you will have to get one of those wire things like bob dylan had for the harmonica

Fingers are pretty much in a state and getting to the point where i can't do anything, i can't get in to see the Doctor so had to take photo's of them and send them to the surgery. Not heard anything back yet so will just have to wait, my heart nurse is going to contact my Doctor on my behalf and also mention that i need to get them sorted. She thinks that it's a reaction to something and that Anti-Histamine tablets may help. I am pretty much lost not been able to do anything and hope they can sort something out quickly. Heart Nurse is hoping my Heart Meds aren't causing it as they are starting to work better and lower my heart rate which was the main goal of them.

Sorry to hear about your problems, hope everything works out ok, Believe it or not I just slipped a disc in my back last week, doing curls with bad form, sounded louder than a gunshot going off, lol never known pain like it, its easing a bit now though, cant do any exercise which is killing me but thats life.

While you say you cant do anything why not try to compose something? also spend  time learning to read music and music theory, dont know if you do this already, personally I enjoy that almost as much as playing. I think written music has a kind of beauty, I am quite narcisistic as well in as much as I like the look on friends faces when I put  a piece of music on my stand and play it, to most people written music is a complete mystery. Study some violin scales and in yoaur head work out were your fingers would go on the fingerboard, I struggle with keys that have a lot of flats.

@LordOdin -

Please check into what metals your strings are made of.  Many people have different metal allergies and you want to make sure this isn't contributing to your problems.

@stringy -

The "Mckenzie Method" is a big name in our family with blown discs and stenosis.  "7 Steps to a Pain-Free Life: How to Rapidly Relieve Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain" by Robin McKenzie.  It was recommended by Kevin's Doctor's as a part of his treatment, so worth looking into - but see your physician, 1st!

Didn't mean to further derail this thread, but best wishes for a speedy recovery to both of you!

thnks Emily I will check that out, I have a had back problems ever since I worked in the glass factory years ago, butwhen it went completely I thought I was a goner, completely my own fault as well, as it had been playing up for a couple of weeks and i had intended ro get a weight lifting belt but didnt bother, which may well have saved my back. luckily I am already off work for a couple of weeks so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Until people have felt the pain they have absolutely no idea what its like, I couldnt even fasten my shoe laces for three days.😭

Thanks @stringy and @elcbk. I have been trying to read music past couple of days which should help when i get back to actually playing an instrument. I don't think it's the strings that are causing the problem Emily, the swelling is mainly on the Joints and the blistering is actually on the back of my hand as well. I have been playing Guitar for what seems an eternity sometimes and probably used most string materials out there. I seem to prefer the nickel coated strings on Guitar but only tried Steel ones on the Violin, Steel on Banjo as well atm. It will be all sorted soon hopefully, had a go on the Harmonica this morning, if i have to suffer the neighbours will as well. Hope you back gets better soon stringy.
