Ok here is a short one did it in one take in iMovie just so I and you can see my flaws. Be honest I can take the bad with the good... I'll upload another song later today. P.S. had to save it to Youtube first because I was getting server errors trying to upload as a .mov (quicktime) from iMovie.

I thought the bow is a bit tight. On this bow when I just tried to loosen it a little bit the some of the strings are wobbly. I have a few bows from Cecilio.
I'll still post a guitar backing track for Ode To Joy (simple version) I'm still having some wrist issues so I havn't picked the up much this last week or so. I do have it written and see how I feel later today about playing guitar.

Thank's for the comments Fiddlerman. I noticed the G was a little low half way through that short piece and was ready to stop but wanted to upload right away to test out iMovie as I have never used that program before.
I found the sheet music to that song online somewhere last night. I can't remember where? I had a few friends over last night when I found it and we were tipping a few back as you can see in my hung over un-kept look in the video
I've been playing for 2 months and 3 weeks now.

Hi naosunflower and welcome to the Fiddlerman forum. I saw your video too and I wouldn't worry about your posture it was perfect to me. Would like to see your head though And I think we both need to add a little more bow pressure and think about the songs a bit more as long as we stay focused on technique in the back ground and practice, practice practice…
I first tried uploading by saving an iMovie to .mov (Quicktime video) file for upload here and kept getting errors. So I said the heck with it then uploaded to Youtube. Fiddlerman made a post a couple weeks ago about the best way to put Youtube videos on this site.
A Youtube video will have a URL like: youtube.com/watch?v=DHFQJWR so just change the URL like this: youtube.com/v/DHFQJWR and it works great.
That URL was just a sample I made up so once I post this comment hope it doesn't turn out to be a real Youtube link

Very nice, MGN. One thing I noticed is that you have not moved your fingers away from the strings. That is good. I am trying to do that with little success. Hope to achieve it sooner. Now you can have another id MYVIOLINNOW.

Thanks for posting that MGN ... 2 months playing, and that's the progress you've made! It will be an inspiration for other newbies to know it's been that fast for you. And it's a good way of tracking your own progress, the next video will be an improvement, and the next and so on.
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

Robyn I was waiting for your comment... I was thinking of you! We sorta look the same on our facial expressions
Yeah, I have only been playing violin for almost three months now but I do play a lot of guitar, sax and piano...So my hands can handle it. Have to say violin is one hard instrument to learn.

Thanks for waiting for me ... but I beg to differ ... I don't think at any time I've got my tongue out. (Ok, I'll go back and check.)
I have no comments to make because I can't see anything wrong with your style, specifically at the stage you're now at. I agree the music doesn't flow all that well, but there are so many things to concentrate on that some of them will be forgotten. I'm working very hard on relaxing my hand on the bow, but I still can't relax my left thumb, it just crushes the violin neck like a vice.
So here's to US ... the fun bunch, and may the FUN continue !!!
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

Thank's Cat that will work. I'm working on a spanish violin song on that site right now. I'm transposing the piano parts to classical guitar today to play along with the violin.
Didn't even think of searching for Scarborough Fair. I've only visited 8notes a couple times but lots of music their. It's funny you posted that at the same time that I'm on that site.

Very true. Lot's of things about your position, holding the instrument and bow, angle of the fingers are great. I was surprised. All that was accomplished under 3 months. Also a great example to show users that they can start learning to play violin in their adult life if they like. I don't know how many emails and posts I've seen with that question. Am I too old to learn?
My dad always said, "The day you stop learning is the day you start dying."
