..... I'm having conceptual problems here - I'm looking at the Viola 2 part, and in bar 42 we see this ( now - I am NOT a happy sheet reader as you all know - so I'm more than happy to be corrected / put out of my misery - don't hold back !!! ) -
My limited understanding tells me we're using the C-clef ( aka alto, or viola clef ). The middle line is middle C. Two ledger-lines below take us to B3 ( I think - I'm not sure precisely how the "octaves" are counted - it's either B3 or B2 - whatever - not important... yes it is - it must be B2 - just LEAVE ME - I'll get there... ROFL ). Anyway - in the key of F ( or Dm ) the B is flattened. We see it cast here with a natural in front of the note, so that would be B ( not Bb ). That's fine. Then on the 3rd triplet, it is flattened back to Bb - that's fine as well. But are we detuning our viola C to reach it ? ( I'm not kidding, it's what I did to get F# below G on the violin for something else - so it's perfectly possible )...
Come on - put me out of my misery and enlighten me - because this occurs elsewhere in the Vla 2 part - oh it's around bar 52 or 53 in the repeat section - (haven't looked at Vla 3 or 4 yet - this just stopped me in my tracks) ! LOL
P.S. I wasn't going to actually play that part - I was just looking at the overall structure of the entire piece to see how it "all comes together"
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

This looks great! Part 2 looks like the hardest part; I'm thinking that I'll do 1 and 3 right now.
......
All in all, this should be a fun and educational project, just like the others!
Yup - I have learned so much already from @Fiddlerman 's Thaxted - it was great to see and understand just HOW as a composer / arranger you can make a piece "come together" with slightly different timings ( triplets on one part - straight 1/4.s on other voices - and so on - and MUCH more evident in this latest piece ) and bring an "unexpected rhythm" to the piece - something, as a player, you just do not get by playing an individual part, but is totally apparent to the listening audience when all players are "in concert"... Cool - as you say - educational, absolutely... (and of course, FUN ! )

I started playing it a little yesterday. I don't have it close.. the first part of the first part it easy enough.. I know the song, but not as familiar as I thought. I will surely need all 8 weeks to get it done.
Yay.. Look at everyone joining it.. COOOOOOL Summer Project.

Nice one @coolpinkone - it can be REAL difficult ( as I think it was @cdennyb was hinting at ) - any "formal arrangement" is never quite what any one person "hears in their head" - when I hear a "complex" arrangement ( in the sense of several instruments playing together - rock band or orchestra makes no difference ) I get a "sense" of a melody which is not necessarily the ACTUAL melody line as played, say by the lead instrument ( whatever it is - even if there IS one ). I am also "swayed" by the "internal rhythm" of the piece ( not necessarily the percussion parts - just the different instruments "playing with", or even "against" and "beating against" each other in their timings - I find it quite magical at times and wish I understood what's going on in my head when I listen )
I've always felt like this about music, but I have now experienced this "close up and personal" with @Fiddlerman 's Thaxted project, and even more so with this one... I find it really quite interesting and at the same time "difficult to explain"... there may just be a musician hiding somewhere inside me trying to get out.... who knows... LOL
I am tempted to submit my acoustic guitar version ( not because it is anything special, just because it ALSO is "different and personal" and is my own solo-acoustic arrangement ) but it's not really a postable item (is there such a word) in the fiddle forum - I'll do a quick recording tomorrow once I dust-off the acoustic guitar which hasn't been played for a while ( I blame the fiddle for that ) and post it in the... shhhh... you know where... It's nothing special, it's just "different".... ( and besides, I chose to play in C / Am anyway to ease some of the guitar string riffs ) so it will be of NO help whatsoever to anyone for the project... LOLOL - so - this is NOT the place for that, but you can keep your eyes peeled for it to appear you know where...
Keep working at it CPO - you'll do fine - I have a similar problem ( like Denny and probably everyone else who have already taken the tune into their consciousness and made it their own ) - we all "hear it" in a different way but this time round we have to obey the sheet / click track and not just "wing it" LOLOLOL
http://www.fiddlerman.com simply rocks (OK, blatant advertising I know, but I make absolutely no apology )
Bring it on folks !

Thank you @Bill. I am happy to hear your thoughts. And it helps to talk about it and what we are encountering. I am eager to put it together.. reading the sheet isn't my issue.. but this song is about so much more than notes... you know what I mean.
We can do it..
I will keep you and all abreast of my progress and I hope you all do as well.

LOL Steve - I forgot to add, I also have this "Didgeridoo" as well (honestly) - OK here's a pic - - of which the @Ferret ( John Luck ) will no doubt approve ! I thought it was the only way I'd manage to get below the "C" LOLOL... hahahaha... EDIT: No - you don't have to be crazy to be a member here, but by heck it sure helps.... !

bummmmp!!!
How is everyone doing on this? I worked on the first sheet of Violin 1 last night. I am familiar with the song as far as I know of it... and as far as I know the beginning of it in my head a bit. I definitely got better with it over the last few days. I am not familiar with the way the song goes as the page turns to the second sheet.... BUT I am not too worried... I didn't know Thaxted either... :).. (oh but that took months and months..
Looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing. 8 weeks!!!! and counting.. tick tock.

@KindaScratchy Wish I could make it Diane, this will be a long work weekend for me, 14 hour days. Makes it tough to do much more than get home, practice (maybe) do a few chores and hit the sack.
I'm having fun trying to figure this one out. My daughter learned it pretty quick on the guitar. Supposedly only a couple of chords. Well, I'm delving into D Minor for the "first time" in a long time and still trying to figure out the dotted quarter note rhythm... My instructor is helping. I really want to get at least two parts done before the deadline. Maybe even one on the violin..

I am sorry that I let my imagination go wild when I transcribe/write arrangements and it may accidentally become a bit difficult but I will make practice videos for you guys to play along with me. We'll get this done together.I may even write an additional simplified part.
Thanks for the enthusiasm!!!
yes please. Some. practice videos would be a great help. Violin 1 page 2 and the double stops would be great. Thanks Pierre
