I'm coming along. The difficult parts in all the pieces are when you run into sixteenth notes and faster. I'm just now getting them down at faster than 60 BPM. There are also some tricky double stops.
I keep thinking I'll post some outtakes, but it's time I'd rather spend practicing. If I could get taping and uploading down to a more basic reflex, I'd be doing it more. That's coming along too.
I'd hate to see the deadline moved back. I kind of like the pressure, it speeds up my progress while practicing.

@PopFiddle
Cool that you are moving along. I don't know what speed I have the 16th notes. I don't think the speed is that hard.... well....maybe.. it's just unfamiliar to me. But I have used some tracks from Bill and Denny to get a bit of a sound in my head and I have been practicing just those parts alone. I am getting better... with the 16th and the accidentals.
Of course I play the main part of violin 1 ..somewhat ok. I need to get my butt in gear playing with the track. That is always my challenge. At first it is distracting for me when I am trying to make the most of my practice time.
As for the deadline.. I am working toward the deadline... I had planned to be ready by June 8th... but if wasn't then I would bow out gracefully.
Time will tell. But I do have a big joy practicing and learning with a view to performing and playing with the Fiddlerman Group!!! WE WILL ROCK this song!

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you do pizzicato double stops? o.o
Not a stupid question as i've been wondering if i'm doing it right. I've been strumming them, so one right after another, i think with holding the bow out of the way trying to pluck both notes at the same time is hard. I might be going about it the wrong way so someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I hold the bow with pinkie and 3rd finger, with frog nestled in my palm, leaving thumb, finger 1 and 2 available. The bow rotates, so the bow-hair is "flat-on" to my line of sight. My thumb drops down over the hair-side of the frog, and fingers 1 and 2 are behind the stick. Now - that does NOT MEAN I can actually manage it yet, but, for a finger picking guitar-player I guess it would eventually work for me, and should be able, in theory, to pluck 3 strings.... ( hahah - contortionist )
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

Hi, Fiddlerman and everyone! Gee, i thought I was excited about the project but Mad_wed takes the cake!
I am in an okay place right now with all four of the parts. I sound amateurish in places but... I am an amateur! I would not be too embarrassed to go for it and submit videos for the original deadline. I am still working on improving.
I am making it harder on myself than I have to in order to learn skills. For example, I know I could choose just one note of double stops to play, but I want to be a person who can do good double stops! So, I have to get them tuned up a little better and make sure my bow hits both strings at the same time reliably. I am also doing a lot of shifting where I don't really have to, but I want to try to avoid some open strings so the tone is richer.
Fiddlerman, for the pizzicato parts, would it help to pluck up over the fingerboard where the strings are closer together and (maybe) have less tension? I think I have heard my teacher mention that.
I wish I could do a real vibrato! I never learned proper vibrato and feel that holds me back. I sort of pulse my fingers and get something that I think sounds nice, though. I have watched Fiddlerman's tutorials and will try to learn real vibrato when I can.
So, that is where I am at with this project!

Aaaaand i'm having a question (or two XD)!
1) I'm mesmerized with V2. Measure 48: those are 64ths, aren't they? I've never played something that has so many lines, so i might be mistaken... And if those are 64ths, then first 8 notes in that bar should be played all in a duration of an 8th note (i'm still trying to count while playing =) - eternal war with my sense of tempo).
2) How do you guys switch your brains from 4/4 to 12/8 to play triplets? Especially in 6th bar of V1? Triplets are nice when they all triplets in one bar, but when it's only one triplet and the others are usual - it's brain-blowing-up! How do you count them?
Thanks a lot if somebody shares with the thoughts!

Heyyy @kevin-m - go here - https://fiddlerman.com/2015/04.....n-project/
Hope that helps...

I probably will not do any recording but I like to fool around with the music yet. I hope this is a very successful project for all.
Hi Kevin - there is actually an "out-takes" thread I kicked off - it's for folks "messing with the project" - bits they are working on, bits they are having trouble with, or indeed anything remotely associated with the project or the piece itself.
It's here - https://fiddlerman.com/forum/t.....out-takes/
We've had three or so posters there - so if you don't feel you can "achieve what you would want" for the project submission itself, feel free to post "attempts at bits of it" there ( to my unending shame, I already have! )

cross posted from another thread
@Fiddlerman
I am laughing.... not at you...(well kinda.. what got into you.. ??? Your musical genius came out in your arrangement. ... but don't frown.. be happy!!!!! ) haha.... but you sure got a bit fancy with this one.
I am going to take it as a compliment. "we got this right???" You have confidence in our mad wicked violin skills.
Anyway.. I read on the other thread that you are getting us some videos and extending the dead line for another four weeks after. Thank you.. eager eager.. (you did say to keep bugging you...... so be prepared for bugging....
I am working on it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Measure 34-38 and beyond.
@Bill and @cdennyb did come up with some play alongs that have helped me hear the beat and notes. Anyone that needs file Bill offered to send you the play along on Musescore... in case you missed the offer.
My advice to everyone that is working on the project. Learn the notes and the patterns and rhythms as best as you can so that when we get the helpful videos we will only have our problem spots. If anyone doesn't read sheet and needs help with the notes I'd be happy to help also. (keep in mind I am rather newish too)
Happy House of the Rising Sun to all.

Slightly off topic but necessary for this project. For some reason the click track will not load onto my iPhone. I can download it into my iTunes account but it will not sync with the phone. Practice is tough using the PC for the click track, and will be impossible to record while listening. Has anyone else run into this problem. It seems apple is getting more and more difficult to download any media that is not purchased directly through the iTunes store.

The problem is, I am losing control of my left and find it hard to even tune my violin. I am hoping the doctors can stop the nerve damage before I am paralyzed. Until then I keep playing around.

@kevin-m - I am sorry to hear that. I hope the docs can get in lickety split and save your arm from paralysis. Sending good healing vibes and thoughts. Keep doing what you can while you can. That is a good motto for us all.
Love and much sunshine,
