My name is Lara and I am thirteen years old and have played the violin for three years when younger buy renting from a local strings store, but my mom could no longer pay so i had to stop. But if i got the violin than I would be very happy. After i loss my violin my mom would take me to every pawn shop, music store, give aways looking for a violin in our price range. About four months later I was looking on the computer and found a new sight named fiddlerman.com. I went to the sight every day. Fiddlerman would do free actions alot but I could never figure out how to get on one untill now. Well a couple of months ago our school told us that the school can LOAN you an instrument. The one bad thing is that you can't take them home so i can not practice. Thank you Fiddlerman for giving me this great chance.

Oh cool, thx for your opinion! Yeah, from what Fiddlerman said, I would assume the violin w. no body would be best. Did you check out the 4 styles they offer here, which one do you like& why? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CECILI.....1e5ea671c9

afro violin-studentthumbs-up I'm in London UK.. Planet Earth..and happy to be a part of this great sharing opportunity.  I genuinely asked my husband for an electric violin for my next birthday in January 2012 by pure coincidence.  Why so early the request you say? To give him time to save up.  My birthday always falls a week after Christmas and the New Year and for this reason is notorious for being the most under-celebrated birthday of the year, but that's not to say that I'm not loved and adored by my family.

I agree that everyone here is most deserving and I love what Fiddleman said about wishing he could give each of us a prize, but we all know that the prize is in the taking part, and that the winner whomever she or he might be is going to have won fair and square.  I will definitely be reliving the joys of violin playing here when I do eventually get my hands on a new violin regardless of the outcome.  This web site really rocks!  Has anyone heard of Eliza Carthy or Peter Knight from the Irish and English folk circles?

I do love the way they play with such passion and vigor.  If you've not heard of them and you like violin you should check them out..note

I will probably want all you regular members help to vote for entries we agree are worthy to win. To qualify they need to fulfill the rules found HERE. I'm thinking that we'll pull a name from a hat out of say 10 - 20 applicants.dancing If there are 10 everyone will have a 10% chance to win which is not badcoffee

I plan on raffling off a violin every 2 months. The CVS-200 will probably be next. My guess it the beginning of October. violinviolinviolinviolinviolin

afro awesome!

You are a very generous teacher.  Do you have access to notation for violin for 'Tyrolean Cradle Song'?.  It's one of my favourites..

I don't know if I qualify as a regular user as I've not long joined the forum but I'd be more than happy to cast my vote.

Let me know if I'm eligible cheerleadersmile

Hi to all.

Like some others here I chanced upon this website while browsing for a new electric violin and finally found someone who would put in a review (thanks Pierre).  I'm so happy I joined, there are so many useful posts by members, not to mention the tutorials.

I'm going to put my post in to win the new electric violin, even though there are so many of us.  Obviously we're all motivated equally, some with very sad stories to tell.  It seems age is no barrier to passion for music and need for expression, I'd love to hear the rockin' Twinkle version promised earlier.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to win, though I'd be so pleased if one of those passionate juniors ended up getting a big break simply because they entered a raffle and changed their life.

Robyn

(And @Oliver ... I put my location in my profile hoping there'd be someone close to me, it's a big world.)

If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

Well Anji, You may be a regular by the time the vote comes around :-) Just keep visiting and contributing to our discussions.

Is the Tyrolean Cradle Song the same as Brahms Cradle Song? If so, I could write that it out and finish it in less than a half hour.

of all the cecilio violins you have tested, I read reviews on line, many people said the fingerboards were painted black (in fact, one of the products details was honest about that), and the pegs, chin rest, tail piece were plastic; in addition, in their product description it said the bow hair was mongolian horse hair, but I read a few reviews that said they were synthetic.

my questions:

Are they, what i read, true?

How could you tell synthetic hair from real horse hair?

Thank you!

I am so with you Anathama! If I got your username right.. sorta like spelling, Mississippi.

People get way out of hand online when free stuff is offered. And have no respect for some of us that want to learn and grow with the violin (or any instrument!) I found fiddlerman cause my head turned around when I saw how good he is and so down to earth.

I'll help u Fiddlerman. Let me know. It's really sad that California schools don't even have music programs anymore and I am learning many other places don't offer music programs at all!

Welcome to the forum.

afroHi Fiddlerman I'm so happy to be  here.  It's not the same as Brahms Cradle song, and I think I may have got the title wrong.  I have the melody so strong in my head, and my husband says it sounds like it could be a waltz.. We used to play it in primary school.  I will try to find out what it's called and get back to you. Thank you for your warm welcome..I think I've chosen my winner 1st-place

Here you go: Tyrolean Cradle Song
Hope it's the right one. I listened to it on YouTube and jotted it down.

afro Thank you so much dunno I feel I may have got the title wrong it was such a long time ago, still this is lovely.  I really appreciate what you've done, and so quickly :-)

I will be helping my son get ready for his grade 1 in the Flute, and my sight reading abilitiy has stayed with me since I learned the violin when I was 11, (same age as my son).  Considering I have never played since and I'm now 46, there's something to be said about a sound education in music, especially in the formative years.  He began with Cello but the school changed hands and discontinued that so he opted for flute, but I know fully well that he's a cellist through and through. violin  Thanks again Fiddlerman, you rock!

I've been playing the violin since 5th grade, it was my first instrument :) I am now 18 and have expanded my musical knowledge to the trumpet, a little bit of drums, and have taught myself to play pianonote. Music is my life, and I love it. Out of all these instruments, I only have owned the piano, trumpet and violin, but now I only own the electric piano/keyboard. Recently, i have moved to California from Washington State and have had to leave my instruments. My mom, who still lives Washington, has become terminally ill since then (main reason we had to move with my dad) , and has had to get rid of many things for some money, including my instruments and my beloved bicycles (cycling is another hobby of mine :) ). She did this with my knowing. I graduated high school this year, and I am planning on attending college and furthering my musical experiences, but it is quite hard to do so considering i don't have a violin which is my main instrument. Extra money is also quite hard to come by because we are trying to help support my mom along with the 6 of us in California. Winning a violin would be AMAZING and the biggest stroke of luck I've had in a looong time. Well, i hope that i can obtain a violin through this raffle, and I would like to wish everyone else good luck. I truly believe that we all deserve to win this contest thumbs-up

thanks Fiddlerman for this awesome opportunity :)

Because I really, really need the silent violin to get more practice in.  I don't want to have to wait until the house is empty to practice.  I don't want to have to put the dogs outside when I practice either.  My male dog, his name is 7, he just LOVES to sing and howl along with me, but it does nothing for my confidence!  haha  He actually even howls on pitch, but I can't hear myself when he is howling and it is hard to keep going when I am laughing at him.   I play praise and worship on violin in churches and concerts and I really need to practice more, but it is just not always convenient.  If I had the silent violin, I could practice anywhere, at home, in the hotel room or hotel lobby, in the car (not while driving of course, lol).  Instantly, anywhere could become my private practice studio.  Oh, wouldn't that be great!  And I do it all for His glory, the glory of the Lord, which is the reason I live, breathe, and play music.
