AndrewH said The thing about v.com is that there seem to be few active British members. You might be the most active one. The members who are not Americans are mostly not native English speakers.

I'm having vague thoughts about a strategy for interacting with vcom. I think maybe I just have to develop lurking skills!

@AndrewH Maybe a joke about bridges would have been better, but I think I'm flogging a dead horse now, and I can't be sure you call a bridge a bridge, lol.

Music series mentioned in other thread made me think of Robert Greenberg’s Scandalous Overtures series—this one on Haydn’s Lost Head is funny:

Ah, the infamous Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz by John Stump. Here's an attempt to actually perform it.

AndrewH - cool_gif

I had no idea that was an actual representation of music!

I feel like I might of opened a can of worms... here's a different, impossible piece to play.  Now THAT'S a piano performance!

The Death Waltz videos you just posted are the unfortunate result of two different people's confusion. The music that is heard is the theme music from a Japanese video game (intended to be played by a computer), which one person confused for another video game track that was titled "Death Waltz." A second person apparently saw the title on a YouTube video and confused it with John Stump's joke piece "Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz" and posted the video you just linked to. So the music that is heard has absolutely nothing to do with the score. If you look up the score to "Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz" you'll find that it's obviously a joke and obviously unplayable -- glissandos go from one line to the next and time signatures are literally impossible, and there are a whole host of absurd performance directions.

AndrewH - Awh shoot!

I thought the 1st one came close, but I understand the score is a joke.

The 2nd one I KNEW was a different piece (noted) from a game  - read about the huge controversy over the title "Death Waltz" on YouTube.

I just thought it was amazing that it took 14 students a YEAR to practice for this video!  ...visually stunning as well!

Whoops, spoke too soon! That first one really is an attempt to represent the Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz!

My fault -- I didn't watch it until now. The preview screenshot looked a lot like the videos of the video game music that I kept finding all over YouTube, so I assumed that was what it was. Sorry about that.

So... funny that you mention it... my one most embarrassing moment on stage involved accidentally throwing my bow in the air. In a semi-professional orchestra in front of a paying audience of over 700. It was in the last movement of Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony.

ROFL  Andrew.

Same thing happened in the Malmö Symfoniorkester in my beginning years there. A guy in the second violin section ended a piece on an up-bow with a crescendo, the bow slipped out of his hands at a high speed, flew up in the air, and landed in the viola section. You can imagine the jokes that came from that situation.
