@ABitRusty -

I've listened to Alden Robinson - he's a fabulous fiddler, starting young in Maine, but went to College for music in Ireland.

'The Green Mountain, The Musical Priest & The Derry Reel Set' are on The Press Gang's debut album 2010 - I can't a find sample recording of that Set anywhere, but both of their other 2 albums can be sampled on bandcamp.com  Bad Luck with their group's name, confusing with an Irish (Punk/Rock?) band by the same name.

Anyway, you've got me curious enough - ordered a copy (I'm supposed to stop ordering CD's and books! 😔).

yes Alden Robinson is the one and that Press Gang is the group.  NOT the other.  and I believe you are correct in the style of the other.

Back to the Maine group.. I was able to get that album when i could purchase and download individual tracks to my phone on amazon.   something changed and im not able to now.   i can purchase tracks but they always live withing the amazon music app, which prohibts any type of tempo adjustments for practice purposes.

@ABitRusty -

Yeah, I was all excited thinking I could listen to a sampling of the whole album on amazon, but was screwed up - correct photo of the album (is correct band), but it connected the wrong band's tunes when I tried to stream it. 🥴  Don't know if it will do any good, but I reported the mix up.

@ABitRusty

The Press Gang CD I ordered was delivered today! 🤗

Really glad I bought it.  Most of the tunes I haven't heard before & I enjoyed them ALL.

The 'call & response' for "Crossing The Shannon" - a VERY pleasant surprise!

Thank you for recommending it. 😊

Thats actually a really good way i was taught to learn a tune and how she teaches by ear new stuff.  then we will swap parts.. do the b part then the whole thing.

someyimes by the time we get back to the whole part some the original sections at the start have faded but they come back.  something to try if havent already for anyone.

worked on rakish earlier to get it a bit faster.  Still on the slow side but its an improvement from last post, mainly pleased with backing here.

 After that been taking a detour from Irish to fiddle up a top40 type song.  Mainly to see how much of it I could hear and transfer into playing.

heres updated rakish paddy for now.

EDIT 9/10

Finished some stuff in yqrd a while back and sat down before going in.  Laid head back and the sky was about as blue as Id seen in a while with clouds moving.  Had pandora on and Po Ha' Penny started playing.   Thought it went well with the clouds and all. 😏🙄  I took my phone out and hyperlapsed about 5:00 or so..the footage looking straight up is part of that recording.  if anyone interested in cloud hyperlapse footage 😁

Anyway, decided to learn the tune and over a few days picked up some cinematic footage of weeds and insects and random everyday tree growth.  Along with some night sky stuff. I played this a bit different for a while than is recorded here.  Thought i was playing it too fast compared to what Id heard.   But think this may be a tad slow on this one.  Ill say its a Lazy Ha Penny..  Great tune though.   I think it could work well in an old time jam too.

@ABitRusty , wish I could give this post 10 stars!

This is so beautiful and creative, both the video and your fiddle playing.  Your playing is so subtle and expressive.  Thank you for sharing your talents.

I always enjoy the music and videos you create, and appreciate the tips you share.  I really should have given feedback long ago for your other works.

You’ve really outdone yourself on this one!!  I know you’re always quite humble about your music, but it needs to be said that I would actually pay to watch and listen to this, and I’m sure others would too.  I really hope you’ll put together some compilations of your fiddle, guitar, and video work in the future.

@ABitRusty -

OMG!  THAT IS SO COOL!

Hey, I don't think I've ever heard that tune before - perfect with the hyperlapse footage!

Wow, it's been so dark here in Michigan, I forgot what a bright blue sky looks like!

THANK YOU - really enjoyed listening to you play while the clouds, bugs & plants danced along!

You said:

🤣  Our yard has really been neglected because of all the packing & organizing going on.  It was already a jungle, but Kevin grew some tomatoes that turned mutant, over 6' tall - now the yard just looks prehistoric... bet if I laid my fiddle out it would be grown-over by the end of the week!

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET A DRONE?

thank you Mark... @Unfretted ! too kind.  Ive never felt my fiddling has ever been subtle so that makes me feel better.   Ive always kinda associated it with a bull in a china shop. 🥴  You can catch all my latest works here in the cave for free! 🥳🤡 😀

@elcbk FAA rules. too risky..dont have the proper PaPers to put in a video and post.  used to have one.  but its about like ground videos when you dont really have a good subject. 🙄  ive about run out of weeds and brush piles to film. 😉  trying to get a better handle on some of the davinci resolve stuff.  i had some ideas but failed to get it working on this one.

thank you mouse!  Its a really neat tune.   Slow/fast.. think one could even get a kind of bluesy rock type vibe with it.   I really like doing the recordings.   like a puzzle or crossword... added with music.

If anyone interested I found a camera "slider" on amazon to make the moving timelapses.   a whole kit designed to be used with cell phones and go pros.   For what its worth here is a link to their product.  Its about $130.00 U.S

https://gripgear.com/product/d.....ector-set/

its especially easy to get setup and recording.   Nothing to it compared to older ways to get timelapse. even a "cave" guy can do it 🙂

You are welcome, @ABitRusty. I highlighted your blog in the chat roll this morning. I am trying to do that a few times a week.

I look forward to your next video.

here it is Mouse 🤣..

Thpught Id record it just fiddle in kitchen while sup was cooking, without all the fluff.   Get some quick playing in.

I dont recall ever hearing this played here.  Ive heard it mostly on pandora/youtube.   This is closer to what I think a session version would be.  but will need to run it by my teach and see if she knows for sure.   I think i may have too much hate to say swing but I think im exaggerating it a bit much.

@ABitRusty -

Glad I didn't go to sleep, yet!

🤔... very different approach on this one.

Hate to say it, preferred the 1st version - even though it was slower, because felt it had more of the hornpipe swing... like a pendulum - swing 2, swing 4, swing 2, swing 4.

I enjoyed this last one too, but you added a pulse in your bowing that felt spot-on, every beat - 1,2,3,4... lost your dotted note feel.

Keep doing what moves YOU!

To me, you sounded similar to Marten in the 1st version (looked because you played these 2 so different).  Have you had a chance to listen to the Shannon Heaton version phrasing (flute)?

...really LOVE the photo - very cool Celtic shield design on the stable door!
