I could hear 2, but can't always tell if you use your viola, too.
Nice full sound, makes a big difference!
Did you get to watch any of Jordan Hamilton at Fiddle Hell last April? His workshops were on the cello. He used one instrument, but layered his recordings with many different times playing. I believe the point was we naturally do something different each time we play a tune, but maybe the mic in a different positions (not sure) - so he uses quite a few takes, makes the recording very full/rich. If I didn't have so many other noises around me I think I might consider recording while I practice, in hopes something was salvageable for later use... still a bit far fetched for me. (lol)

@elcbk ive did multiple fiddle tracks over time. also different instruments including viola.. if you are hearing something in this one that you think is better..
there are brand new dominant pros on the violin. Like, i installed yesterday before practicing.
I think the biggest thing youre hearing is this though...
i switched my normal room reverb to a plate style reverb and increased the amount of reverb that i normally use. ( I usually send just enough to hear it then back down a few %. And i use the same room reverb with same settings all the time. Sometimes depending on the tune may send less to the reverb so fiddle seems more up front to me) I also arranged which tracks sent a signal to the reverb differently. on one fiddle track i sent the left and the other the right. for no reason other than bored and was experimenting.
thanks for the feedback! i may keep it in the mix like that for a while and see how goes.
personally it was a tad bright sounding or focused...idk.. different. The extra fiddle and more reverb will open the space up though.

Thanks!
How many mics are you using?
Always appreciate that you explain some of what goes into a good recording. It's still amazing to me, like pulling back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz!
When I heard the attention to detail that Béla Fleck puts into every recording, my jaw dropped - and his thoughts on LIVE vs studio recording were very interesting. I think of ALL the years I've listened to music & never had a clue what those guys in the sound room were doing - whole other World.
...think I feel a sci-fi/fantasy film idea developing here. 🤭

i used the same two mics for all three tracks and when its just a guitar and fiddle usually do that. they are different type and brand, not a stereo pair.
but ive been doing that off and on for a while depending on what else i have playing.
If this one sounds better than most to you..its not the mics...its the reverb plugin. 🙂 so IF you like this one more than others... and want to try and do something along the same lines.. experiment with your reverb types and settings. plate vs room vs hall. play around with predelay and room/plate size.. adjust all of it. make notes of what you like. i dont know what should be used in different circumstances... ive just been using room reverb mostly. decided to experiment with plate.
i save presets once im happy.
reverb...very little goes a long way. but none isnt much different than a cell phone recording in my opinion. cell phone recordings are pretty darn close to mics. you can use them as a stereo recording and splash some effects in later.
intonation differences made this one wonky too..
Besides new strings... nothing else different.
well...other than the tune.

Thank you!
Definitely helps to be shown where it pays off to focus, since there is just SO MUCH to learn!
I had started paying closer attention & using different delay & reverb pedals/settings in my amp patches a few months ago. I'm getting it, but finding what's 'plate vs room vs hall' in these pedals & their settings still has me playing detective (and guessing) much of the time.

The girl I left behind me sounds like parts of the Gary Owen, the cavalry tune don't know if you noticed that, and your Gallagher frolics reminded me of the beginning of wizard of oz, (the film part that is), great playing on both of them especially Galaghers frolics, I like your ornamentation, and I really like the vid, you are definitely getting the hang of that now, Bob on.
Cant beat a sunny day

@ABitRusty -
Great video!
It's really interesting to hear how you interpret tunes & make them your own! I really enjoyed listening & admire you have developed a style. At least it feels to me that you've been developing your own style for quite some time, now - groove, choice of chords, etc... wouldn't mind hearing more of that faint 2nd fiddle in there, nice!
I can't keep straight which tunes are what between Tarbolton vs The Bunch of Keys or Paddy's Turnpike - all get lumped together as variations on one another (in my mind), but LOVE them all.
Think what you've done in Unreal Engine is fabulous!

mouse so glad you watched..hope youll try it. i had to use a fake cello and i believe it may be something to try on a real one. 🙂
wow emily thats cool..thank you. Im just playing maj/minor diatonic chords... simple stuff. i know youve heard how this one is normally played and i cant do that... so voila'.. me style! 🙂 i do appreciate that encouragement..thanks!
btw.. wasnt planning on the scenes until a had finished the audio and was thinking on what to put with it. 😉🙂

@ABitRusty Love the cat cameo in The Sligo Maid! And the meditative time-lapsed tree growing in the Tarlbolton. Both tunes sound excellent; it's wonderful how you take all your great playing on various instruments, and blend them with the techie stuff--you've definitely have the mixing thing down
Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

Mouse and I gots us a band. Heres the 1st track on the new album titled... Rusty Mouse
😀
Really liked her cello on this. Theres a part that you did where I think you called it a wolf tone but I thought it was a great affect. anyway... just thought of these two together and made something. was gonna add some guitar but just ended up using for some percussive type stuff.
Thanks for sharing and permission to post mouse. I had fun with this one and it was unexpected..had planned on not much tonight.
whats next? 😀
