@SEHatfield -
Hope you try the higher quality hair & give us a review!
I posed the same quiry in the Dark Horsehair Bows? Thread - unfortunately, I never got a response... ended up trying black hair, which is great for my style of playing & my extended-range fiddles.
I'd STILL like to know if anyone has tried higher-than-standard white hair & what it does differently for playing!

i think it would be difficult to do a scientific comparison. I think youd have to somehow lock in the feel and sound of bow hair 'A' then switch to bow hair 'B' on the same bow and compare..
maybe let codabow rehair?

Most people I know have two or more bows, but not two similar bows that could be used to compare different types of bow hair.
It's common to have a more expensive primary bow and a less expensive backup bow -- I have a top-of-the-line hybrid bow as my primary viola bow and a cheap student bow as a backup. It's also common to have two or more good bows with different playing characteristics to play different types of music. But in either situation, the differences between the sticks make it harder to compare bow hair.

Why would a Coda Prodigy have inferior hair?
If you are unhappy with yours, then maybe it's old, or maybe it has been mis-rosined, or maybe you are overestimating your playing ability (no offence intended, but in the money-spinning world of violins and their demanding technique, it's crucial for people to practise more and spend less).
(My two bows are a JonPaul Carrera and a Coda GX. I also have a DeLille hybrid which I haven't used for a couple of years.)

Not sure where you got that I said my Prodigy had inferior hair. Knowing there are "levels" of bow hair quality was what drove my question. And Codabow themselves even advertise they use different qualities of hair depending on the bow ... inferring their entry level bow, Prodigy, might have the least quality. I'm simply curious as to whether upgrading would make a discernable difference. No offense taken.

From your suggestion that you upgrade it. It would be inferior to the upgraded hair.

That answers my question. But it lessens my estimation of Coda.

Here's an idea for dying bowhair. There's prolly a more suitable thread for it, but it can go here.
