So far, so good. I am surprised. Any faster and it would not be possible. I do find it easier to use the click tracks for all parts together rather than just the 4th part, again surprising.

I know what you mean about the swing and the click track. No idea what I’m doing with it but not thinking about the click track yet.

Maybe not knowing about all of that is a blessing at my end. 😂 I don't think about it, therefore, not stressing about it. My notes are to the click track. I actually think there be a little swing sound to it, but done naturally because of the song and having heard Gibbles. So, I am not stressing about it. If I can get the notes, including the runs, to beat, I am 😁. Like I said, this is top speed for me.

In case anyone might find them useful, I made some video play-alongs at practice tempos (55, 75, & 85) for each part and quartet (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola 3 & Cello) of the project, and have them posted here:

https://fmgp2023xmas.sharonslc.com

As noted on the page, they are for PRACTICE ONLY.  None of them is performance tempo.  You must use a Fiddlerman-provided clicktrack to record your video.

Added note (27 Oct): Someone asked me for a quartet version at 65bpm - I've added this.

Added note (29 Oct): I've added a link to go to audio-only files (mp3) that you can play and/or download onto your device.

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

Thank you Sharon. I was secretly hoping you would do something like this!
When I get better at the tune, I’m going to use these. I have had a quick go but need to get familiar with the music. So glad you did this 😁

These videos are really helpful for practice.

Thank you Sharon for taking the time to put it all together!

@Fiddlerman , here’s a big Thank You for this wonderful Christmas project!

I LOVE the song, your arrangement, the Gibbles tutorial, the quartet performance, and the click tracks.  And I especially love that everything’s been prepared so early this year.

It was fantastic to have the sheet music available in August, which allowed plenty of time for practice.  If you do a project again next year, I hope this will be a new tradition.

I don’t know how you manage to do everything that you do and still make time for the Christmas projects.  I’ve been to Fiddlershop several times and can appreciate the amount of work a business of that caliber entails… plus there’s always service and advice with a smile.

It was also helpful to have the Gibbles Violin 1 video available so early to enable preparation with the correct dynamics, nuances and character.  Great job.

It looks like our household will also be looking like Christmas rather than Halloween as I get ready to record!  I’m putting the final polish on the piece this weekend.  Brought out the Santa hat, my Holstein 3-star Pernambuco bow, and the fresh violin strings.  So nice to give this my all and still wrap it up before the holiday frenzy arrives.

Thank You.

I entered this into my blog, Mouse's Cubby Hole, but thought I would share this tip with others here.

I needed to isolate a section of the click track, to work kn the section with the runs. It is hard to do with the format of the click track. I made a duplicate of the click track, I use the click track with all parts, but it is hard to isolate the section I need, so trying to edit the duplicate did not work.

Also, I prefer to just be able to press play and have it start over, but with the format, I have to drag the cursor back to the beginning.

Solved my problem. I did a screenshot video of it and made a video for my camera roll. I now have the all parts complete and the section I needed sectioned out as separate videos in my camera roll. Works out nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I started early because I know how busy I get and this is something that I never want to stop doing.

Looking forward to all the submissions. :)

Cheers!!!

I'm happy to hear it Walter. Should be a great success as usual.

And, just so you know, I'm not picky with the submissions. I play with the balance when all parts are mixed in without even knowing who's part I'm adjusting. I do that by separating the audio from the video and mixing all the audio parts together before applying the audio free videos. It's a benefit for my processor as well. lol

I so wanted to do this a few years ago but wasn't good enough. I can play the song just fine at MY speed. We'll see if I can get my speed up to play along with the click file. Thank you though. I love the music and the challenge.

Hi ! This Christmas project is so cool that I suggested to my friends that we play it live for a concert in a retirement home (tolerant audience because we are beginners lol) for 10.12...

Here is the audio of our first attempt together, we were quite happy even if there is still work to be done (if you have any constructive comments do not hesitate).

I play V2.

But I'm going to try to also record V1 for the Fiddlerman project video...

First post here…

I’m really excited about participating and started practicing yesterday. I’m an intermediate player (7+ yrs) and mainly play bluegrass and fiddle tunes.

Any advice on playing with the backing tracks? I’m having trouble hearing the melody. Turning up the volume makes the rest of the backing track too much for my ears.

Another question about bowing. Do I do my own thing when there are no markings? For instance, measures 9 and 10, Violin 1. The E is down bow, the next marking is an up bow, do I choose where to add a slur in between those two? Normally I would play the triplet with one bow but that doesn’t work. The same thing happens multiple times.

Thanks!
