I've found that 'Silent Night' sounds quite nice on my viola and am thinking about doing a recording of it.
@Fiddlerman
But it's silly question time. Not being a music 'reader', if I play it on the viola just like I play it on my violin, will it be OK for the project? I wouldn't know an alto clef from a piece of wood.
I find that the viola is in some ways easier to play than the violin. There is more room to move.
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

John,
Not a silly question. You would play it almost like on the violin except that your first note would start on the 3rd (D) string. Also, the highest note would have to be played in a position other than 1st on the A string. Lastly would be that your fingers need to be a bit more stretched unless you are playing on a 14" viola which I believe you may have right????
@Fiddlerman Pierre
I gave it a try. The 'stretch' part isn't a problem on the 16 inch but that 'top' note is.
I've never played anything in other than the first position and rarely use the 'pinky' so that note is being a bit alusive. I will try but I don't think it will be good enough by the deadline.
I'll still be doing it on violin
BTW.... What if I restrung from CGDA to GDAE? I have the long viola E string somewhere.
Or am I missing something here?

Whew, got that done. My video is sprending as I type this.
Pierre, I used a different camera this time. I hope it is a file type that will play ok with your equipment this time.
As usual it was fun and I'm looking forward to the next project.
I also hope that my viola playing friend Judy joins in.

Ok, who wants a good laugh?I just tried to record my entries into this project. All good, candles will be a nice touch won't they? And a nice red scarf?
Set up the candles (had to turn off the fan so they don't blow out) ... phew it's hot in here! Ok, a mirror to reflect the meagre candlelight ... check. Then realised my music stand is what I've used to lean the mirror on, and the music is starting to scorch ... quick!
Ok, rescued the music, it's still readable ... oh dear! While I was leaning over to grab the music, my scarf has caught fire!
Aaaahhhh ... only a little bit singed around the edges. But the candles keep going out all of their own accord, probably because they've been in the cupboard for years, only used in cyclones when the power is out.
But the result of them going out and being re-lit? The damn smoke alarms are going off! Quick, or the neighbours will be calling the firies ...
Emergency averted ... all good, camera turned on, sweat mopped from my brow and running down my back ... press record ...
After 6 attempts, I was quite satisfied that this was the best I was going to manage today, switched off the camera (surprisingly, the batteries didn't give out like they usually do).
Just fired up the computer to check my video, and the camera hasn't focused properly, I've been so intent on my bowing that my right arm has totally hogged the camera. So ... no soft candlelight, no red scarf (I tried to hide the singed bits), and the tone wasn't actually very good anyway.
Maybe tomorrow ...
How do you people live in climates where you have an open fire? I'm sure I'd burn down the house on my first day.
OMG Robyn you MUST post that video!
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

I guess Jesse has had his hands full with his own project.
Yes, maybe lots of coffee, but from personal experience (you'll see what I mean) it doesn't necessarily help.
I'm thinking this will be a major project for Pierre to put together, but I really can't wait to see the final product!
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.
