hi all.  i am new to the violin.  i went searching around the internet, youtube and found this site.  what a great site!  i have always liked stringed instruments and played around with guitar for awhile as a teenager(many moons ago).

my musical interests vary from classical, blues, bluegrass, rock and heavymetal.  my immediate goals are to learn some carols by christmas time, but atm...im terribad  >.<   eventually id like to learn some celtic/irish and classical pieces.

thank you for this wunnerful site.

welcome from the left coast of the USA... chatted several times on the shoutbox... glad you joined up. I can hardly wait to see what you plan to play before Christmas...

I love celtic & classical first, then bluegrass, then crossover... then whatever's left over... LOL

i have a guitar ( a les paul) and just bought the violin.  i bought a ceclio cv2n-bk..it is so different than guitar, between instrument placement and using a bow vs. a pick.  im at the stage now where im trying to learn to pat my head and rub my belly at the same time.  ^^

going fretless is new to me also.  now i really have to learn the notes sound vs just finger placement.

i really enjoy the sound of the violin, but i hope to get many years of enjoyment also.  =]

Yep! When i came to my first violin lesson, my teacher asked, why i want to learn the violin - i said that other instruments (guitar or piano) don't have enough notes for me, LOL! She said: "hmm...indeed"

i really enjoy the sound of the violin, but i hope to get many years of enjoyment also.  =]

i come from guitar as well.  i think this site has everything you need to learn how to play.  it takes a minute to go from using guitar tab to reading music but i got hooked.  How long have you been playing?  It's been 3 weeks for me and it's great.  let me clerify, i'm not great, it's great.  it's so more exacting than a guitar.

oh, and i saw your message on the chat thing about sheet music.  I would suggest learning the sheet music.  once you get it, it's much easier than tab and it helps you know where the notes are on the violin as opposed to just playing a position and not really knowing what it is.

i messed around with guitar for about 15 years, never anything serious though.   some punk rock, heavy metal, classic rock..stuff along thoase lines.  i got the violin bug 2 weeks ago, researched and bought one.  been playing(trying to learn) for a week now.

a friend, who happens to be a high school music teacher, stopped by tonight to see my violin and to give some tips.  she was impressed by what i already know(which isnt much)  =D.  i couldnt stop gushing about fiddlerman.com.

tyvm for the tip eojo2  =D

the book im using is "forcing" >.< me to learn to read.  i really wish i had learned it earlier.  c'est la vie.
