I did try Sweet Jenny Jones a little faster today, and with some swooping of the bow. How is that for a technical term, "Swooping". It was okay, but my intonation goes out the window, but it does give the piece a different feel. Not only that, it made me feel differently than I do when I play it more slowly, like a ballad.

I will continue to try to get it faster. @ABitRusty, I might ask you for some bowing tips, but I am not to that point yet. I hope you don't mind. I think that I almost got it.

I dont mind, but I havent really played this style.  Because of that and the video I found, Ive ordered a book thats nothing but these tunes.   English fiddle tunes.  I would need to listen to the tune alot more first.  Maybe by then the book will be here and can learn together.  Rusty mouse needs another track!

btw it sounded very stately for lack of a better word.  another world from what i normally play.  itll be good to have a goal yo work on in something close but different.  need it.

thanks!

If my copy was a freebie, in other words just. download, not from a purchased book, I could send you the copy I am working from. Maybe I can find my exact copy online as a free download. I will look later. I think my version is Key of G.

Been a while. A little down time, but I did do my violin and a little cello.

I was trying to get more of a jig sound out of Sweet Jenn Jones, as well as a little more speed. I am not sure if I like it better as more if a ballad, as it was in a video played on a small harp, or the faster version more like a jig. Completely different feel.

I was getting some good sound out of my cello today.

So, I managed to get in a little violin last night, Sweet Jenny Jones, and some others. Just a playing session, not really picking anything apart.

This morning was cello. I worked the Sweet Jenny Jones cello part, and spent some time on the bowing and fingering of the Mussette from English Suite No. 3 by Bach. Then I played some pieces that I have memorized.

I was able to get some nice tone from the violin last night when I played, and from my cello this morning. Baby steps.

One of these days I want to put a set of violin strings on my Pawn Shop save 15" viola, just for kicks. Maybe I will do it this evening. It sounds good with the viola strings, but is very weak. Understandable being a pawn shop save and only 15 inches. The luthier did fix it up and it was much better after he was dine. That was about 6 years ago.

So, I put a set of Fiddlerman violin strings on my pawn shop save 15 inch viola. It has projection now. Not sure about the sound. The strings need to settle. But it is kind of neat.

Been a couple of weeks. Nice day today. I took my Grandpa's Folk Fiddle to the front stoop and played sings that I have memorized, not many. I don't have Sweet Jenny Jones memorized, yet, so I couldn't do that one. When I do it, and record the audio, I want to use my Grandpa's Folk Fiddle.

I have had limited time, between knitting, cello, violin, my shoulder needed a rest. So, what little I did play, was very little.

It was interesting, all the Fiddlerman Violin Strings on my Grandpa's Folk Fiddle were in tune, except that the E needed just a tiny tweak. It held its tune with those strings great!

It was nice that no neighbors were home, I didn't bother anyone. But, I do wonder. After a while, the wind shifted. I was getting whiffs of the dairy farm south of us. That happens very rarely. I think they heard me and turned a huge fan on and aimed it at me. I had to go inside. I also had to close the windows that I was finally able to open, bummer.

So, I grabbed my cello and play Suzuki Rigadoon. I play it slower than it is meant to be played.

I had to Google to get the title name and found this Slow Play Series.

Slow Play Series by Cellomoji - Rigadoon

I am not one for YouTube, but she did do a good job with this Rigadoon, so I am add this link to my blog so I can find it easily.

Thank you very much. I have heard this song faster, but I think it sounds better slow. More expressive, which I am working on. I have played it closer to speed, but not a fan.

Thing is, you can play it at whatever speed gives you pleasure in playing, that's what matters, nothing else.

Well, I have a knitting machine set up. The only place I have room is right smack where I play. It is just the best place for thing, basically. Room for my music book, stand, etc. Also room for my cello. But, it is also convenient for what I need for machine knitting.

I am still trying to figure out the machine knitting, but am getting there. My sweater is turning out quite nice, but there are a couple issues. I did find that combining machine knitting and hand knitting those parts that are easier to do with hand knitting works out quite nicely. But, I do want to finish it up so that I can get back to my instruments.

I want to do up a couple songs for Stringy's Spring Plant Topic he started in the Share a Video. I do have a couple in mind and will try them on my violin, viola and cello. We will see which are postable quality, just audio, no video.

After I do the Spring sing, I need to get back to Sweet Jenny Jones and the other songs I have been doing on cello.
