My idea is to compose a simple jig, in d or g major, 6/8 time. It would be done by each person who wanted to join in composing two bars of music, not playing it but writing it on a simple stave.
The first two bars composed by say mouse, would be sent in a personal message by her to another member maybe Greg, he would then compose another two bars to follow the first two, then he would send his two bars, but not the original 2 to Emily who would then compose two bars to follow Greg's, then send her two but not Greg's to someone else, at the end we put them all together in the order they were sent and see what we have, maybe it would be a great jig or it may be garbage but would be good fun, we could call it the fiddlerman jig, you never know it may start getting played at sessions.
Perhaps if it's any good fiddlerman might even play it
What does anyone think? And any input or ideas?

No problem mouse, I did think afterwards is it possible to attach an image to a private message, if it isn't it couldn't be done anyway.
Maybe no one would be interested, not looking for mozart style composing, just something simple for a bit of fun which is why I thought of 6/8 in one of those 2 keys be ause they are both easy, think it would be amusing to see what came out at the end, perhaps you could ask fiddlerman to do the first 2 bars to start it off, not asking for anyone to write in ornaments, they can if they want though, or just leave them to the imagination.

Lovely idea!
Think it would be fun to put together a 3-part Jig!!!
AABBCC - 8 bars/measures to a part (repeated), 2 bars/measures EACH... 12 people could participate! 🤗 You might want to do 4 bars/measures each, because there is usually some motif repetition - but totally up to YOU!
You don't have to PM anyone, just do it in this thread.
I kinda assumed you wanted to start this, but since you didn't show anything I went ahead & jotted something down.
If YOU want to start with something of yours, I'll be glad to add something different to it (but hand written for now). Or, use just part of this, or all of it, to start out - whatever you want, it's YOUR project. 🤗
Tried to throw something in my 'Notation' app... after an hour, I still couldn't figure out how to change the key signature from 4/4 to 6/8! 🤬🤬🤬
So I'll start you off with my terrible hand-written scribbling. 🤣
...all 8th notes, in case it isn't obvious. D Major is NOT my favorite key, but held true to it & kept within 4-string Violin range.
...and fair warning, I listen to sooooo much music - can't guarantee it's 'original', but I didn't have anything in mind when I jotted the notes down. If it belongs to something, let me know.
Maybe someone would be kind enough to clean up my mess in some software for me (?) 🥰

Emily, you got it more or less, but it would be a project I was starting, just put it in the wrong place lol.
The reason I was saying send our parts to each other is because then we wouldn't be able to see the whole thing till the end, so we wouldn't have any idea of were it would go or what it would sound like,.
The reason I suggested just two bars each was that I thought asking for more may put people off, as for key reason I said d or g is that they are the most common ones and would probably the easiest to put together,. We could have four bars each if you wanted, this is why I asked for ideas.
My plan would be something like this, if you started it, and did your bars, send it to Greg or any other participant and number it 1, when the second person adds there bit to it, they number their own new bit number 2 then send it to the third person, just their own bit not the original of yours, and so on, so no one sees anything except the couple of bars they are sent and their own addition, then at the end we put all the numbered bits together in numerical order 1,2,3,4 and as many as we have, and see what we have got, may be a world beater who knows.
Hope I have explained my idea properly, and hope you will join in , have to see which others if any decide to give it a try, we would need more than just 3 or 4 of us though wouldn't matter if you just wrote the notes on a rough stave, and like I said for ornaments they can be written in if you want, what do you think
By the way your bars are exactly what I was thinking off, just played them, excellent stuff.

Just looking at and playing your bars , I realised even though you write four it will probably have to repeat to 8,, otherwise none of what we did would sound right, need to have a think about how we could do it. Think that's a great beginning you wrote.
Going to have to see how many others want to give it a go what do you think for format.

GREAT!
Ask Mouse if she can move this over to 'Member's Projects' for you.
Jig structure would be 8 bars repeated, so it depends on how many folks are interested in participating - I think 2 or 4 bars (per person) would work. "The Kilfenora Jig No.2" (The Session) is an example of a jig that has a whopping FIVE 8-bar parts (each repeated)... so, this could get VERY interesting!
If you don't want the whole work in progress to be seen, you could request people just PM you theirs (like what I posted), then it would be up to you to find the best way to put the parts together - but like Mouse said, new members wouldn't be able to participate that way.
It could be just as much fun for folks to add their bit right here, to whatever the last person posted in this thread - then you could put it all together (with the 8-bar repeats included), after you have enough. You might get more participants this way.
What do YOU have in mind for 'format'?
My ideal would be to include an audio track with the resulting score, then ask folks to have a go at it - share recordings if anyone wants to (maybe even a Party), unless you are up to going full out GP with everyone's participation.

Thanks mouse;)
Emily just got back in read your reply, your idea of doing it on the site is the best, my idea wouldn't work after giving it thought. I also think it will have to be 8 bars each, but maybe let others decide? In any case here's is my bit to follow on yours, hope its eligible
I like the idea of a party, its a great idea I also like the idea of a track to go with it. I would like everyone to think it's everyone's project and not just mine, community and all that.

WONDERFUL! Just played it.
🤔... IMHO, think you you should leave yours at 4 bars. If you repeat each of our 4 bars (8 each), you'd need to repeat each of those 8 bars, so AABB would be complete.
BUT, if you play my 4, then your 4 & repeat THAT 8-bar sequence, I think it is MUCH more interesting... sounds FABULOUS! Would mean only AA is complete & ready to start B part!
Only my opinion, of course - would love to hear what others think!
Okay now, who will step up & start the next part???
@Mouse -
Thanks! ...I haven't been able to use chat.

Sounds good to me Emily, think what you say is the way to go
I hope others will join in. It would be amazing to have our own jig, could even put it on the session;)

Great!
I'd have to check, believe 'The Session' is a bit particular about newly 'composed' tunes. If they need something that's been played at a 'session', maybe @ABitRusty can introduce to his group what we end up with - don't think they meet again for a while, though.
Okay, so here is what we have for PART A!
WHO WILL START PART B (4 bars)?
Hope someone will save me with a proper PDF!
(edited) measure 5, last note is 'G' (not F#) - sorry!

THANK YOU!!! 🤗🥰
...except, Stringy just pointed out where I screwed up - measure 5, (edit) last 2 notes are F# and G.
Sorry you are bowing out, but really REALLY appreciate your help!
@stringy -
Please accept my apology - I'm really sorry I screwed up!
I was in the middle of herding cats for their annual visit to the Veterinarian. 😬
Unintentional... but actually sounds great both ways.
So, sounds GREAT, thanks to Sharon!
BUT, we still need 4 bars/measures from someone to start a 'B' Part!

No problem Emily it's my writing which is the prob, it's G/F#/G.
I was also hoping Sharon may join in but it's still a joint effort, with her providing invaluable help. And the offer of violin 2 as well.
Just hoping others will pitch in, getting quite into it to be honest, but if worse comes to worse we would have to finish it between us or at least try.
Really hope others get involved, and very pleased that you did, and still keeping fingers crossed for other members.
Sharon loved that link with the music it was great, hope you will consider throwing in a part, I love your arranging and playing.
