@STRINGY That sounded nice and like a session jig.  Think yall are on to something.  Heres what I heard as an ending.  If you want to use thats cool... if not change as needed or discard out right, no problem.

EDIT ***

Forgot a repeat sign.  corrected version below

Looks good, will play it  tomorrow,  bit late for the neighbours tonight lol.

Listened in my head reading it but I am  not up to the standard of hearing it perfectly without playing, maybe never will be. LIKE  the look though it looks symmetrical.

Thought of names as Emily said the other week, came up with a few, if you read earlier posts you will see them, but after thinking, maybe it could be called Captain John G. Great tribute I think.

If he wasn't a Captain he should have been

Maybe in a hundred years, in bars in sligo and the like they will be playing this jig and discussing its origins:)

Heres me playing

I think it has a Lad O' Beirnes's type feel/sound to it.  Very catchy.  And the first couple of measures on the A part sets everything up nicely.

Names.. Stringy's Frolic?  The Friendly.. or The Miami Jig.. hinting at fiddlerman

@ABitRusty -

Wonderful!

Those rolls really make it.

I've liked playing (F# roll, G roll) in place of my measures 1 and/or 3, so I'm also up for notating variations when we're done - think it helps new fiddlers!

So, from what you played on the repeat of the 'A Part', sounds like you agree with Stringy adding an 'A' to the D in the end.

I have 4 bars completed want to go over them one more time to verify they work, then I'll down load life has been crazy and only checking in to forum at work before shift starts with no way to upload to forum. I'll try and get it uploaded this weekend.

@Mark -

What do you think?

I can't speak for anyone else, but as a courtesy I'd still LOVE to see what you worked on for your end of the 'B' Part.

🤔... be great if we got an end to the 'B' Part AND a beginning to a 'C' Part between YOU & ABitRusty - this is getting very exciting!!!

@stringy -

IMHO, thought this was just camaraderie between Fiddlerman Forum members, started by YOU - so any name about friends works for me.

"Stringy's Social Club"?

Don't know what made me think of the "The Cheyenne Social Club", with Henry Fonda & Jimmy Stewart... we obviously don't partake in those activities! 😄

Just thinking of a fun time with friends, plus - never heard a similar name for any fiddle tune!

"..would you consider notating them as an essential part of the tune?"

no.. thats just where they came out for me.  someone else may feel them elsewhere.

.."So, from what you played, sounds like you agree with adding an 'A' to the end of the 'A Part' - at least on the repeat? "

i added the note A to end of 1st repeat because it seems like a natural pickup back to beginning of B part instead of having 2 notes the same.  the whole tune flows pretty good so i think people will do different things and itll work.

hmm is my pdf downloading?   may have messed up by posting correction

Sounds excellent Greg and goes into it great, no doubt about it. As for names I don't really care what it's called to be honest, maybe at the end we will all decide on something, as Emily hit the nail on the head it's camaraderie really, and good fun doing it.

I am in agreement on rolls and cuts and such, I think everybody adds them where they naturally feel they go.

I also look forward to hearing marks composition as well,

Reoriented image for you (I've had trouble with this, too)... have a few things running through my mind, like beginning the 'C' Part.  You've offered up some surprises here! 🤗  Makes me wish I could hear you play these 4 measures.

I wish I could play the 4 measures,  my jig timing sucks.

Thank you for orienting the picture correctly.

@Mark -

I played your four measures A BUNCH of times today!

IMHO think this is cool/different enough to be repeated/used for EIGHT measures of the 'C' Part... I have seen jigs that do NOT necessarily repeat every 8 measures - sometimes the last 8 are different, so 16 measures are written out.  This would be a GREAT opportunity for a couple more folks to end the 'C' Part!

BUT, I want to make a couple small suggestions, 1st - because a few spots are a little hard for me to keep the 'jig feel' going.

I want to know what everyone thinks about this, too.

  1. I would move the last note in your 2nd measure (F#) up to G
  2. in your 3rd measure, it would be much easier to play if the last note in each triplet matched the 1st - so changing, C#, E, B to (C#, E, C#) and E,A,F# to (E,A,E).
  3. with that last note change, the 4th measure seems (to me) to descend more naturally with (G,F#,E) and (F#,E,D) - instead of A,G,F# and G,E,D.

I've tried a bunch of options - one is to have a couple notes slightly different for the ending of the 4th measure vs the 8th measure.

I will post some audio & notation (unless ABitRusty, or AndrewH, beat me to it) to see what you think.

Don't know how I managed to make THAT mistake - thank you for catching it for me!  🥴

...bear with me - almost done correcting more mistakes & making the Jig rhythm reflect better in notation!

Alright, I think I've stopped making a mess of everything. 🙄

@Mark -

Your part is a little hard for me to play, BUT I notated your 4 measures/bars with the notes as you submitted them.

What I did different - I added 4 measures.  It's what I had previously suggested, Mark, but I didn't feel right suggesting you change yours - it's your creation.

I changed note duration throughout, to reflect JIG RHYTHM better. 🤗  If anyone has trouble listening to the piano playback, I'll find another way to share it. 😁

♥ Open for discussion - is what I offered up (added) okay?

♥ Want these last 8 measures repeated, or left for someone else to add on to?

♥ OR, If everyone is only supposed to participate once - I can remove what I added... just let me know.

@stringy -

I made the change you wanted at the end of your part.

@ABitRusty -

With the way Mark's part begins, would you still need a 2nd ending?

PLEASE let me know if I made anymore mistakes. 😉

Nobody notates jigs this way.  Please see the notation provided in Post 18 by @SharonC.  Sharon used the commonly accepted approach to presenting a jig.  Any further rhythmic emphasis is conveyed by the musician.  In the case of fiddlers, the attack of the bow stroke gives the jig its rhythmic feel.

Also, I’m just curious why this is still called the “Untitled” jig.  I thought @stringy named it “Down Scotty Road” a long time ago.

That was an interesting name, as he explained.  I really like tune names that have a bit of history or intrigue to them.  Down Scotty Road got me to read up on that tiny slice of the UK’s past.

At the time, Stringy’s suggestion had me mulling over so many of the great “road” tunes, or even highway tunes, from various cultures: High Road to Linton, Road to Lisdoonvarna,  Crooked Road to Dublin, Skye Road,  On the Road Again,  Route 66, Calum’s Road, The Boggy Road to Milledgeville, New Lee Highway Blues, Born to Run (travelin’ down Highway 9), America (counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike). Calum’s Road has such an amazing story behind it.  I used to play that tune, and this reminded me to put it back into my repertoire.  And @Mouse, saw your other post about exercise music… put on David Bromberg’s New Lee Highway Blues and listen all the way through, now that’s an aerobic workout! Thanks for jogging my memory on the great road tunes, @stringy.
