Too b honest Emily I wasny sure if a short note or a long one was the way to go when I jotted it down, but the eight note works well, better than the open note.

Anyway, my suggestion for the end of the A section would be a quarter note on the D, then an eighth note on the open A, which flows into both the beginning of the A section on the repeat and my start to the B section when continuing on.
Stringy agreed this sounded good.
I wasn't sure if you were talking about a different ending on the repeat of the A Part, or not, Andrew(?)
I support which ever way you go with the ending.
Ending the A part on the A is my suggestion. The most recent thing I posted with the modulation into E Dorian was just for demonstration purposes, and the changes were just to make the modulation work.

Thanks for the offer, would be great to hear you play it, to be honest it's not looking that promising for it ever getting finished though. Never know though, fingers crossed.

Keep your hopes up!
Many folks don't log in very often, or maybe they are just starting to think about it.
We are looking for someone to add the last 4 bars of the 'B' Part (Post #24)!
If anyone is interested in this project, but maybe you feel you haven't played or listened to enough 'Jigs', yet - here's a link to Jigs played in Dmaj at The Session (there's 168 pages of them!): Jigs with Versions Played in D Major
You can see similarities & differences in notation & listen to the audio for how they sound, before trying to compose a phrase for this one!

Emily, I would be happy now if just the B part was finished, at least it could be played right through, wouldn't be great but better than nothing;)

OKAY!
Giving myself a little pat on the back, cause I finally figured out how to use my Notion Mobile app well enough to show what we have so far of our score - with the changes we talked about!
AND, I finally got it to orient correctly so the attachment isn't even upside down! 🤗
Hey, come on Fiddlers!
Join the discussion - love to hear your opinions!
We need someone to step up & help pull this Jig together!
FOUR BARS... in D major, to complete our 'B' Part!

Just to clarify: I was suggesting ending the last phrase before my part on A instead of D. The earlier change back to D was only to demonstrate a modulation into E Dorian.
I am SOOO sorry! Jeez, you mentioned that way back in post #29 and I didn't catch it... too many A's in one sentence for me I guess. 🥴

How exactly do YOU want your part to end? I don't want to change anything unless you want me to.
Originally: it was a dotted quarter D. Next: it was a quarter D and an eighth D, but you mentioned a 'cut' - so should the eighth be more of a grace note? Or would you like: a quarter D and an eighth 'A' (Andrew's suggestion).
We didn't really get into the possibility of a different 2nd ending to the A Part - any thoughts? Yes, No?
I like your part ending on D or A - you could have the 1st time thru end in D and the 2nd time end on A to lead into Andrew's part.
I still have faith someone will add a B Part ending!
Folks have been busy working on the Christmas GP & it's Holiday Season.
Since I'm trying to get rid of some of my preconceived notions about Irish tunes, I have a few more general questions.
So, how strongly do you want this to 'feel' it's in the Key of D Major? Does it really matter if we flip/flop around within 'relative keys' (all scales/modes sharing the same notes)? I've seen many Jigs at thesession.org that indicate a specific Key, but then doesn't start on the tonic, stop on it - or even have a strong presence of the tonic!
Does it matter if it feels like a 'trad Irish' Single or Double Jig - or even an 'Irish' Jig at all? I'm asking because it depends on how you want it to 'feel' - trad Irish definitely has some swing. We could notate where to slide into a note, slurs, rolls and grace notes could be added. Instead of 3 swung eighth notes, 'Single' Jigs use more quarter/eighth note combinations. I have found quite a few Jigs that are mixed (like at thesession.org) - I've recently been looking at Kevin Burke's "Across the Black River".
AND, just a side note - hope folks will consider that a quarter note on the beat easily lends itself to be replaced with a roll, for extra emphasis.

Emily I want my part too end exactly as I first wrote it, lots of jigs go the same way,, that was the whole point, and sort of negates the idea if you have to change your bit so someone else's fits , I wrote mine for instance to follow on from yours with all respect to Andrew.

Whatever you want, maybe, Down Scotty road?
As for things like slides cuts and rolls why not, when I played what we already have I put them in were I felt they should go.

What made you think "Down Scotty Road"?
Sounds better than the Fiddlerman Forum Folly!
Did you want any specific ornaments notated?
Just curious - do you find yourself trying different endings when you play it? 😊 ...I know I did, but didn't jot anything down.
I really expected that members would try to play what we have composed (so far) & become overwhelmed with the urge to add something! 🤗 ...since the B Part just BEGS to be finished!

I tend to change every tune I play every time I play them, I add things take them away, depends what mood I am in at the time, and what I think sounds good.
Scotland Road is a very famous road in Liverpool, scousers and Irish call it Scotty road. It was full at one time of Irish catholics, no English at all, 15 at least to a house, which would only have one bedroom, lots of poverty stricken Dock workers, and navvies lived there. It was a very tough area, lots of those who lived there emigrated to America, actually. There were more pubs per mile than anywhere else and they were full of Irish music and drunks, so, you could say it's a bi of a tribute, I suppose.
