Amazing , thanks Sharon and Mouse! I think because it’s so slow it makes it harder to sound good.. I was thinking this is a marathon !!! But saying that , I do like the tempo. It reminds me of when I try to practice the minute bow and you can hear all the bumps and trying to stay consistent !! I am getting better at the counting and I’m much more aware now of when I don’t hold notes long enough !! I might re record when it’s better and start a Moon River party .. would love to see your versions.

Thanks Mark 😁
I’ve been having a dabble in third position ! It’s really exciting as I’m actually understanding it. There were things I never knew about third position and I’m not even going to try to explain what I didn’t understand ! But the main thing is I think I’m getting it ! Also the piece Vincent that I always go back to has a some advice at the start .. it says to try playing bar 17 in third position . Course I have never tried it but I actually recognised where the notes are in third position and I’ve been practicing that !
Anyway, 12th August 2020 was when my violin arrived from eBay so I’m most at my 3rd year violin birthday !! I can’t believe i’m still practicing (almost ) everyday !

Really pleased for you Katie, sticking with this instrument really does take some doing, remember you have the time to become really good, your progress is great few years is nothing for fiddle, eventually you will be an excellent player, takes time but you will get there keep at it,

I’m away for a week and a half , however I do have my violin!! We are in a caravan so kind of camping ? But a bit realisation for me is … practicing in front of a mirror! Wow why did I never do this? It’s a huge mirror as well!! Anyway I’ve only managed one practice session so far as we are in close proximity with other caravans ! I can still practice just without my bow .. especially the vibrato and fourth finger action.

I’m mostly practicing Amazing Grace for fourth finger and vibrato occasionally on the c#. I have noticed my 4th finger doesn’t snap back anymore which is progress but what I am struggling with is the curve and the first knuckle collapsing. If I practice slowly it doesn’t happen but if I add other notes I find it goes back to collapsing . I’m thinking keep practicing slowly and whatever I do, keep the curve !

That sounds wonderful!
We have a "Holland" in Michigan! Large area of Dutch settlers from 1847 around a huge lake that opens up to the Great Lake Michigan. The whole historical area has great features (including windmills & lots of tulips in Spring!), museums, festivals and I love they ran underground hot water pipes to melt snow on the streets/sidewalks in downtown Holland!
Memorizing phrases is a GREAT place to start! 🤗

I had a pretty good practice session this morn ( no work today wooo). I took a video a few days ago of me playing Amazing Grace with some vibrato thrown in here and there. I was trying to work out why I’m still struggling so much with my fourth finger and realised how far away it is from the finger board ! It should just drop down onto the string in the right place ! That got me thinking about the form of my left hand and how my fingers in general don’t really just drop onto the string . So I started to concentrate on the form and just hovering above the stings even without the bow. Also engaging the elbow more . I think it’s making a difference in my playing already. I’m concentrating on the first few lines of Wolfhart just concentrating on keeping the fingers hovering and the elbow doing its bit.
I also noticed I’m not stretching for the 4th finger as much as I used to and that my fourth finger doesn’t snap back like it used to. I still have the collapsing knuckling problem eeek.
Another thing I’ve been doing is practicing b, e, b, on the a string .. this is stretching my hand and which is good!
I’m determined to get a decent left hand and fourth finger !!

It's really GREAT that you keep trying!I know it's terribly tedious & frustrating!
If your knuckle collapses I wouldn't let it slide. I'd stop, take a few moments to carefully play the note with my 4th finger correctly, then play a few previous notes along with it corrected - before going on. I'd stop & correct EACH TIME IT HAPPENS.
I have my own favorite tunes that set me up to use my 4th finger for practice.
Maybe you can find a tune you like that has many D, A & E notes. You can browse Cmaj or Am tunes here: Folk Tune Finder
A good example is this particular version of "Sally In The Garden". Great little tune for using 4th finger on what normally might be 3 open string notes! ...ignore the time signature changes (you'll see it's not necessary when playing the 2 minims).
Keep choosing to use your 4th finger wherever possible, e.g., tunes in the Key of Gm (or Bb) have 2 flats. The Bb could be played high 4th finger on the D string - the Eb played low 4th finger on the A string.

Thanks Mouse and Emily .
I will have a look at the ones you mentioned Emily but at the moment I’m back at the beginning and yes I completely agree it’s so tedious and frustrating . Honestly really is.
I feel like I made progress today and I wouldn’t say it’s a bad collapsing situation but it’s not where I want it to be !! But definitely I will keep correcting it. Onwards 👍

I have had a RIGHT day of it today with my violin !!!! Arghhhhhhhh!!! it’s been really up and down ! One good thing is I have started to rest my violin scroll on my metronome which is the perfect height to give support when practicing vibrato!! I think that’s really going to help me ! Actually it already is helping me so that’s fab !
But one thing that has been driving me insane on and off today is trying to work out the actual direction of the finger when vibrating . I think I’ve sussed it out .. I’ve tried to draw it below 😬 sorry it looks like a kid has done it . Is this right ?! There are loads of videos on vibrato but I can’t find one that actually talks about the direction of the finger on the string …..

"I can’t believe actually just posted that pic ha ha "
oh now...thats a very nice dwarling! i knew what it was without reading. I mean you may have gotten +10points if you wouldve outlined the fingerboard and put some nice gray shading on it... ( humor ) but its not bad..gets the point across.. 😊
