This is the best place I could find to share a bit about a remarkable man - composer & musician with an attitude that should be an inspiration to ALL string players, who also revolutionized Double Bass left-hand-technique!
Interview of Francois Rabbath.
Here's a wonderful interview - LOVE Rabbath's attitude - very inspiring!
From The Strad - "Life Lessons: Francois Rabbath".
Francois Rabbath's beautiful composition that first caught my attention - "Ibérique Péninsulaire"!
Eric Ashkarian (EricPlaysBass Channel) said this about the piece:
This piece tells a story of a young boy herding his sheep on the Iberian Peninsula. He then sees a beautiful girl dancing in the valley and joins her. The shepherd’s sheep scatter, and he must gather them before leaving. This Rabbath solo is one of my favorites because the story fits the music perfectly.
From now on, every time I play 'String Crossings', I'll think of this mesmerizing piece by Francois - "Reitba"!
...if more people have a chance to hear this man play early in their lives (he's 91!), I believe there will be a hoard of double bassists taking over the music world!
